Concerned about hormones after surgery

Amazing that I stumbled onto this site. I took birth control pills 25 years ago for about 5 months but I had to stop due to eye problems. My cornea changed shape and I finally found a little blurb in a medical book that acknowledged this as a rare problem. I was also given a low dose BCP to try to help with my irreg. and long cycles that prolonged my PMDD symptoms. Unfortunately, I responded terribly to that as well, although it wasn't my eyes but my emotions that it raised havoc on. I only took one or two doses (not cycles). My PMDD got much worse after 3 pregnancies. I am scheduled to have TVH , BSO and A&P repair on June 24th due to prolapse of everything. Even though I'm only 45 I've opted to take the ovaries too due to the PMDD. However, I'm definitely concerned about the hormones I should take post op in light of the problems I've had in the past with BCP's. Any one else out there with similar problems and/or solutions? Thanks in advance.

I would think long and hard about having my ovaries removed unless there was a clear and convincing medical necessity - such as cancer or cancer risk.

If you read on here, you may get a sense of how difficult it can be to find hormonal balance with replacement. Not impossible, but not easy for everyone.

I agree with katrina591..wish someone would have warned me..doc's seem so anxious to take everything out and dont even get into some of the side effects other than "hot flashes"..they dont mention what happens if we cant tolerate any of the hormones? then what?
Keep your ovaries unless its something life threatening......bottom line!!!
Those of you that don't have any problems, please feel extremely blessed!!!

I only wish I had known about this sight before my surgery..as I was on the on the examining room table one day on the the operating room table 2 weeks later. KEEP YOUR OVARIES if there healthy..I only wish I did as surgical menopause is very abrupt, and also have a blood test done to test your hormone levels ( most important the estrogen ) before you have your surgery so you will no what normal is for you. I only wish someone had directed me.Good Luck Tina
