About those reports

Hi everyone. I've got a question. I had my surgery (TAH) 6 weeks ago and I'm doing fine. My doctor filled me in on everything (such as the finding of adenomyosis from pathology) during my post-op checkups but I have never gotten a written report. I've never requested one, either, since I felt fine with what he told me. But I am curious when I read posts from ladies who have these reports - are they something you have to ask for? Do they come in the mail? Or is this something that some doctors routinely give out? I saw my doctor a few weeks ago for my 4 week post-op visit and he never said anything about me getting a copy of the report. Just curious what other's experiences have been with this. Thanks, ladies!

About those reports

Hi Debbie, I asked for mine- and I never would have thought to do that if not for the sisters on this site. You should still be able to get one- just call the office and see if they can get you a copy to pick up the next time you are going by there or at your next dr visit.

I also asked for mine. Though you're entitled to it, you need to ask for it as I don't think most Drs would just give it to you without a request.

About those reports

I had to ask. For my lap/D&C in Nov. I just went to the hospital about a month later, filled out a form, paid something like $12, and they made me a copy. For my hyst I had to call to request a form, which I sent in about 6 weeks ago, along with a check. Nothing yet. Probably ought to check on that.

It's wierd, whenever I have anything done for/to my horse, such as a recent muscle biopsy, I get all the information. The lab just sent me a copy of the results. Even for just a normal vet visit they always write up what was done, findings, recommendations, etc. That makes so much sense - you aren't left wondering "Now, what was that they said?" People-doctors could learn a thing or two from vets.

About those reports

Debbie, I had to ask for mine, too. I don't think doctors think about it (I'm not so sure a lot of them understand why we might want it.) But all I had to do was sign a paper requesting it, and then it came in the mail. It really is interesting reading. You might want to do it.

About those reports

Thanks, everyone! I had a feeling it was something we have to ask for. I'm the type that wants to know everything and who researches things to a great degree so that I understand a subject. But believe it or not, knowing how much I worry, I'm considering not asking for it LOL. I'm not sure yet. I can see myself now - reading this report and having a thousand questions about it and then seeing something that makes me nervous (even though all went great with the surgery). So part of me wants to read it and the other part of me knows how I can get all worked up over reading things like this. True, I could always call my doctor and ask questions but at this point, with my post-op checkups over with, I really don't think I'd want to do that. So I guess I'll have to give it some thought LOL!
