DEVASTATION...found out unnecessary hysterectomy!! OMG!!??

I am very distraught and devastated. I saw my surgeon for post-op check, yesterday. She has admitted that other options SHOULD have been explained to me and the ones that were mentioned-were not given with clear and consise information.(re-house surgeon and consultant i saw-he was the one thhat said YES go ahead) She admitted that other options should have been the alternative!! She also admitted i should have seen her two weeks before the op to discuss "matters" (as above) before the op- Ionly saw her for he first time 1 hour before going into theatre!! She has also admitted there was no proper informed consent to taking my cervix out too!! (you will understand more if you read my intoduction please)
I have to have a bladder scan-all not well there. Maybe bowel investigation too? Also blood tests were taken as well as i am completely run down with my health.
She did admit id had a "hard" life. I could "make a complaint", "fertility is important" and i am to see her in a month to discuss this traumatic outcome. At the appt. i was visibly crying, upset etc...
I told her about night sweats, hot flushess, depression, irritability etc...(as well). I said id done my research (here) and could my ovaries be in "shock", ie/ menopausal symptoms. She was very adamant- "no that does NOT happen". I asked her will i have PMT or what now? No forthcoming answer. She is going to send some of my notes to me- as i could not comprehend all this devastation AND an internal!! This to me is cruel- i cant get my uterus and cervix back!!! I am not coping as you can well imagine.

DEVASTATION...found out unnecessary hysterectomy!! OMG!!??

I am not good. I have noone that i can i can "really" talk with. Ie/ Sister up in another city-little contact and no friends who have had TAH. Many thanks for ALL your prayers and anger for me. It is interesting that the surgeon admitted wrong (and other options should have been explored more) and i could make a complaint. And that i should have seen her prior to surgery, not just on the morning of?!! I remember asking her "is this my fault?" She NO.
I have very little energy to deal with this. It has brought up alot of trust issues-i trusted the medical consultants, surgeon etc....And i guess trust issues in general.
I am deeply affected by this- withdrawing, in bed, staring out the window, dissociating-scary for me..not eating well.....She had said to me "id had a hard life". This is true.

Hi Carolelouise001,

I too send you a big

What unimaginable news. Having a hyst even when it is needed...can be difficult to bear sometimes. So when it was possibly *not* needed...that is beyond words. Admin. Note: Please read our TOS re: Legal Talk and Lawsuits.
On the hot flashes, night sweats, depression and irritability....that CAN come from ~sleeping ovaries~. In post-op, the ovaries can sometimes go to sleep for awhile due to the trauma of surgery. The symptoms you listed are consistent with the ovaries going to sleep. Generally, ladies report that symptoms can last several weeks. I have been on Hyster Sisters four years now..and I have seen many, many threads on sleeping ovaries. It can be very common after a hyst.

Is there any way you can get your medical file and see a 2nd or even a 3rd opinion in New Zealand?? I mean...this Dr. did not just make a simple mistake. You need your questions fully answered and the Dr. that did your surgery may not be as forthcoming as someone else not assoicated with your hyst. Just my thoughts.

Sending you big hugs~

Mary

Hi Carolelouise - I was so sad to read your post. How completely horrible that the people you put your trust in seem to have led you in the wrong direction. It may not seem much comfort at the moment, but when things are very difficult, I TRY to remember that everything in our lives happens for a reason. God has a plan for all of us and we are placed on this earth to learn. It sounds like you have done a lot of learning during your lifetime! But please put your faith in God, He will carry you through this and you really will come out a stronger person.

I agree with historylady about seeing a different doctor (or two or three). I think you will get clearer answers by seeing someone that wasn't involved in the situation. Your current surgeon and doc may be reluctant to say certain things in fear of the fact that they could get into trouble. It is interesting that they have admitted as much as they have, but I would still see another doc.

My doc also told me that the ovary/ovaries could not go into shock - but everything I have read here (and other places) says otherwise. It really makes you wonder about how much trust you should put into one person - as you clearly know.

Hang in there - even though you may not have a lot of people close by that you can talk to, you know there are many many many women here on this site that care about you, that are thinking about you and praying for you.

OMG--that is awful! I'm sorry you feel so alone with your pain. sometimes writing in a journal helps alot. You are not powerless--no, you can't get your organs back, but you can move forward by getting a medical and maybe even a legal opinion. It does take energy to do that, but instead of turning your anger and frustration inside, use it to move yourself forward.
