3 weeks post-op - question about intimacy

Please dont read this post if you are sensitive to sex issues. But I have a big one. My sex drive is through the roof at almost 3 weeks post vaginal hysterectomy. I KNOW I can't have vagnial sex, but what about my husband using his hands to bring that oh so missed "O." I also need to know that the big "O" isn't gone. Nothing in the vagina, but can it hurt the healing to have an orgasm from manual external stimulation?

Do yourself a favor and take a read there! Some post-hysterectomy patients are required to have complete pelvic rest during their recovery period, while others are okayed by their doctor to engage in non-penetrative sex. You need to check with your own doctor to see what's permitted in your case.

Well, my sex drive too has been through the roof! I'm pleasantly surprised about that so far. I also want to "test" things out, but my doctor personally said nothing for 6 more weeks (at my 2 week post-op appt.). I'm excited for when I can, but I'm also afraid it will hurt at this point to possibly have an orgasm. I just don't think my insides are ready for that by any means, so I'm patiently waiting...Good luck to you and I say, definitely ask your doc.

I know exactly what you mean ... I felt the same way at 3 weeks!

Personally, my doctor said nothing - intercourse or outercouse - for 6 weeks.

Just remember that when you have the big O .... your insides may tense up and you may mimmick the 'bear down' action which could cause strain on your internal stitches.

Have fun when you get the go a-head .... just don't rush it.

Cold shower??

I was very much the same at 3 days after surgery. My sex drive went through the roof (still is at almost 8 weeks)

We started using my vibrator at 4 weeks. Prior to that, I was just too sore.

I know right where you are at!! I've been feeling that way for a week now, and boy is it a challenge to ignore the arousal and desire, but my doctor has specifically instructed me that absolutely no stimulation at all, an orgasm right now is out of the question, until 6 weeks.. erghh.. cold shower, distraction, whatever it takes.. its hard but for me I am afraid to rip stitches ( I am having some bleeding on and off too)
