Facing hysterectomy
I have been having pain and very heavy menses for about ten years. For the past 6 months the pain and fullness in my lower abdomen have intensified and the bleeding lasting for 3 weeks at a time. Last January I visited my OB/GYN. Had the uterine biopsy and the abdominal ultrasound and hysto. Fibroids and uterine polyps were found. After discussion with my doctor proceeded with a uterine ablation in March. I had one good month and again the heavy bleeding and pain returned with a new twist stress urinary incontinence and diarrhea. I am 48 years old and an RN and am unable to work because of narcotic pain medication and lower abdominal pressure. I have called my MD and am told that I have cervicle prolapse which may be causing the stress incontinence and diarrhea and is reccomending a hysterectomy sometime this week. I have an appointment with him later this afternoon and will get more details. I am frightened of the surgery but my life has lost its quality and I am tired of worrying. This site has been a great help to me in the realization that I am not going into unchartered waters. I have been able to laugh and cry reading the stories and information here..Thanks

I have had great relief since my hysterectomy. It is a scary proposition and procedure, but I hope you are as happy with the end result as I am.

Facing hysterectomy
Hi sickofworry-I know how you feel but you will be relieved once the surgery is over. I am an x-ray tech and it is difficult being on the other side as they say. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing and we know what can go wrong. I am sure you will do fine and I will keep you in my prayers Be patient with your recovery. You have only one chance to do it right. Good luck and keep us posted.

Facing hysterectomy
Thanks for all the support and caring replies. I just found out that my surgery date is May 29 which also happens to be our second wedding anniversery. My husband is really trying hard to be supportive and is even going with me to have a office D&C this afternoon. But it is driving me crazy that he is always asking what can I do for you. I am tempted to reply have the hysterectomy for me! LOL, some mood swings I am having here!

Tasha,
Fibroids are begnign tumors. I am not a DR and can not tell you what your symptoms sound like. There are so many different symptoms that a woman can experience and just as many reasons why things are the way they are...Polyps could be another cause and are somewhat easy to remove.. I had a couple of them... All non-cancerous... There is no substite for your doctors advise and submit to any testing involved... I am convinced that not knowing is one of the most difficult things...This journey is very difficult and i am sincerely thankful that I found this site an all the wonderful information it contains... You are not alone... Looking forward to hearing from you, getting to know you, and sharing our journeys.
