Question - endo pain , running out of options endo pain , running out of options

I'm 29, have 2 kids and had tubal 6 yrs ago. long story short I've had lap, I have endo. Lap with D&C and carterizing some uterine nerves helped for about 4 months, BC pills make me too sick to take. Tried aygestin now for 4 months. 1st 2 months were great now symptoms are coming back but not as bad as when i wasn't on the med. symptoms are...pain and tenderness in abdominal area ( hurts to wear pants), mood swing, extremely painful intercourse to the point I don't ever want to think of having it again and I'm a newly wed again, and unexplained bowel changes with my menstural cycle. I go in 2 days to see dr again for update while on med and to discuss further options. I know a hysterectomy may not cure my pain completely or permanently. But i have to ask for those of you that have had one to treat endo, is the pain post hysterectomy less or more tollerable than it was beofre?

Well, for me my pain didn't even start until after my hysterectomy. We each have different experiences when it comes to pain so there is really no way to be able to predict what will occur for you.

Have you had a second opinion about what might be best for you? Have you ever consulted with an endometriosis specialist?

Having endometriosis can be very frustrating but I hope you find support and information here on the site!

I wish you well for your upcoming doctor's appointment! in there! S

endo pain , running out of options

I had been to several gyn's over a period of 9-10 yrs and my current dr is the only one who did anything about it. All the others told me it's just the way I am and they couldn't do anything about it. My older sister just got diagnosed with endo and my maternal grandma had adenomyosis. I'm unaware of any endo specialists in my state (OH). thanks for your reply.

i found that my pain was dramatically reduced for years after the hyster.
however, you need to think about HRT and whether you want that as a course of meds.
the HRT can be known to feed the endo so if there is any left in the abdo then the endo can return.

thank you for your help. I went to dr yesterday, we both agreed that this tis the best treatment option for me. He mentioned HRT and I told him i'd think about it. I understand why it is needed, yet I understand how it could be not a good idea for me. I talked to my husband and told him that I am already moody and get hot flashes so i'll probably try and see how i do with out HRT at first and go from there.

I had a hysterectomy for endo 5 years ago. Once I recovered from the hysterectomy I was a new woman! But now 5 years later the pain is back..... so its not a permament cure but heck it gave me five great years of living pain free!

my mum had hysterectomy 30 years ago, i have to stress that she doesnt recall being told it was endo, as the op was for abnormal cells , but watching me since my periods began many years ago i suffer the EXACT same symptoms the mum had, she sai that after hyst she NEVER got any of the pain back, in fact i was visiting her today in london and she was telling me it was the best thing i could do she has never looked back

my sister in law had a hyst 11 years ago, for endo and again she has never looked back, she said it was def the right choice and she is also pushing me in that direction..

on the other hand my aunty had a full hyst for endo and was fine for a few years, but for the last 15 or so years she has got considerably worse being pretty much bedridden for the last few years and is on morphine all of the time for the pain,my uncles advice to my hubby was to think deep before you leap, but that said my aunty would still be the same had she not had the op,as it's the endo thats hurting her not the hysterectomy, if anything it gave her back a few precious years befor it got bad again!

this really is a double edged sword as for some it probides a reprieve for a certain length of time, for some a total "cure" for lack of a better word, but for the rest it seems to have no effect at all...

its a toughy i know as i have been offered one too but am not ready yet, but you really do need to know other peoples experiences in order to make an informed choice

i really do wish you all the best in whatever you decide, and hope we all get the relief we desperately deserve, i myshelf am up typing this at 03.28 uk time because of endo,

good luck.x
