Comfortable pants to wear post-op?

Has anyone found any comfortable, not casual, pants to wear post-op? I have to go back to work next week for a long hearing in court, and most of my suits are not comfortable with my still somewhat swelly belly. Although I had a LAVH so I only have small abdominal incisions, I am still getting over a bad allergic reaction to Dermabond, so my tummy is also sensitive to clothing that rubs.

I have a few pairs of low rise pants, but I seem to need to wear them even lower than they are cut, and I shudder at the thought of going to court looking like a teenage wannabe. (I HATE the current saggy pants trend). If I can't find any comfortable pants, I plan to try to find some dresses that I can throw a blazer on top of and ask the judge to cut me some slack about dress-code expectations. It occurs to me that I could try maternity wear, but I don't know that I'm emotionally ready to go to that department just after a surgery that means I'll never be able to have kids (absent adoption). Any suggestions/tips would be greatly appreciated.

Fleurdelis,
I hope your return to work goes well. I do not know what the dress-code is, but if very low cut pants are comfortable, why not try to find a top which is long and covers this? I saw some tops which are quite long pre-op in the department stores (Macy's, Penny's?).
You have a dress code against dresses? or against dresses covered by blazers? Why?
Yes, keep away from a maternity shop. They may not have what you want anyway, so why risk the emotions.

Joanne - Thanks for the suggestion. There's no dress-code against dresses, I would just have to find some that would be okay to wear to court. (Many judges are still old-fashioned about court room decorum, and while I might be able to get a special exception, I don't really feel like explaining to some of the judges why I need one).

How about a pair of black sweat pants with a dressy long shirt and black heels. Accessorizing can take any item of clothing and make it look dressy/casual. Good luck-hope you find what you want.

Hey dgxr29,

Your suggestion sounds very comfy and a great idea but generally court attire is a business suit of some type ... be it pant or skirt suit ... it most often includes a matching blazer and a dressy shirt. When you don't have such stringent dress restrictions is seems difficult to visualize.

I only say this as my position requires I attend court also and will likley be in the same position. I have had complications since my surgery (Deep Vein Thrombosis) so I am still on bedrest and my recovery time has increased.
Hugs,
Tracy

Fleurdelis (love the name!)
I was just at Kohls yesterday looking for work clothes and was trying on some dress pants from the vera wang line. nice fabric and priced just right!
She has alot of nice items in her line which might just work for you. Also, the gap is having a sale on pants and while some are casual, there were a few that were more geared to work.
Just a few ideas to maybe help ya out!
I am going back to work next week too, but I am able to wear dresses (which I have bought) but have been on the hunt for nice pants as well.

BTW I completely understand about the baby issue-hang in there

I was going to suggest dresses too! Could you wear empire dresses with blazers? You could cut the top of pantyhose to make them comfortable or wear thigh-highs.

I think the dress is a safe bet. I don't know about you but my tummy swelling increases as the day progresses and I am always tugging at my waist band late in the afternoon.

Comfortable pants to wear post-op?

I just got home from my first shopping attempt and boy am I pooped! I'd love to try Kohls, but the closest one is 60 miles a way. Thus far, it seems that I'm going to have to go with dresses, as I have not found any comfortable pants yet. However, the dresses I tried on in the mall today depressed me as I looked pregnant. I did not see any dresses today with an empire waist, which I'd like to find as after just 2 hours in the mall my belly is definitely bigger than it was when I first got up this a.m. I guess I'll try again tomorrow. . . .

I found dress pants at Penneys and a longish straight skirt that have a flat waist band and back with zipper but have elastic on the sides. I believe they are Sag Harbor. There is another similar brand called Covington but don't remember where I got them. I had to go a size larger to start with but just recently was able to go back down a size. I still need the elastic, though, for swelly days. These may not be as stylish as you would normally wear but if you want comfort they look better than sweatpants.
