Getting prepared

I joined Weight Watchers yesterday. I guess that you could call it vain, but I already fight a weight battle and now I am afraid that losing my ovaries will end up making me gain more weight than I already deal with.

I go to my pre op visit Tuesday, so I guess I will find out what my Dr has in mind for HRT. I like the idea of having a patch put on in the OR so that I don't wake up freaked out. I already fight depression and take Wellbrutrin XL so I am full of "what if's"!

Thanks for listening! My family acts like I am going in to get a tooth pulled. I wished they would take it more seriously!

I understand exactly what you are going through. I know it's been said time and time again, but waiting is the hardest part. I too fight a weight battle and well, the weight always wins. I suffer from depression as well and I was so afraid that my HRT wouldn't work and I would be a mess. So far, everything is great. I actually feel better now, emotionally, than I did before. Other than trying to get my patch to stick the right way, everything has been a piece of cake. Make SURE you tell the Dr. you want the patch put on in the OR. I woke up and didn't have it on and I wasn't feeling right. After I had it put on, I was fine.

Not everyone has the same reaction to HRT or a loss of hormones. I have heard others say that it took their bodies awile before they felt menopause symptoms. I wasn't like that.

I like the idea of you going ahead with WW. It's a great program, and it will already be in your head, so it won't be something new you have to start after surgery. I'm going to go to WW right after vacation. Hopefully I won't gain alot of weight on HRT. Some studies say that it doens't cause wieght gain, but some people will tell you it does. My husband asked the doctor if I was going to be like a cat that gets fixed. It starts getting fatter in the OR. Of course, he was just picking on me. He knew I was nervous and he does whatever to make me laugh.

I'm sorry that your family isn't very supportive. Maybe they just aren't adjusting well to what is going to take place. Be as understanding as you can with them, but keep telling them that things aren't going to be the same for awhile.

Take care honey and good luck

Thanks Denise!!!

I know I just want this over with. Maybe I can lay out by the pool after a couple of weeks recovery and enjoy a few days by myself and away from work!

Take care and thanks so much for the reply.

I think joining WW is an awesome idea! A wonderful goal to continue working towards after the surgery. I, too, am using weight loss as a goal.

Focus on yourself and take advantage of the time away from work. Laying out by the pool sounds so relaxing!

Maybe your family is trying to ease your worries/concerns by "taking" it lightly. My dh was doing that until my office visit and I was not having an outpatient surgery. That's when he realized how bad I've really been feeling. Will your dh be with you during the preop appt? Maybe having the dr be very detailed about the surgery will prove how serious it is and playing it light doesn't help calm you.

HUGE Hugs!

I just lost 20 pounds and I don't want to even gain that back!! But I think knowing that it could happen and being prepared to ward it off will help us both. I'm also walking at least 2 miles per day to help get in better shape

Jessica - What a great idea, I will bring DH along with me on Tuesday for my pre op with the dr. I do pre op with GYN Tuesday and then the hospital preop on the 20th. Maybe he can attend both appts. Hugs back to you!

Vicki - I am so very proud of you!! Have you already had your hysterectomy or is it to come? I agree we have to be proactive about our weight. You keep up the good work girlfriend!!

Hi Christy,

I too have a weight problem. I think that it is a wonderful idea to join Weight Watchers. You have given me a great idea. I am going to go out and join Weight Watchers. It will be a goal that I want to work towards. We are having our surgery the same day. Keep in touch with how you are doing.
