Biopsy fibroids prior to LSH?

I just read an old post where someone mentioned biopsy of her fibroids prior to LSH. Can you do that? I know they try to do the lining sometimes but can you actually biopsy the actual fibroid? And if so can you biopsy a subserous one?

Since subserosal fibroids are on the outer wall of the uterus I'd think it would require a laparoscopic approach to biopsy, but biopsies of fibroids aren't normally done. I had my thickened uterine lining biopsied like you mentioned though. Your doc might be best to reassure you about your concerns.

i had a uterine and endometrial biopsy, d and c and hysteroscopy before my lsh. i havent heard of fibroids being biopsied. every dr has requirements before surgery so he knows exactly what to expect so i'm sure its possible though.

I had fibroids and I agree with Sistabeth and Dressedupinblue. I have not heard of fibroids being biopsied either.

In pre-op, my Dr. did say..and I have read it on Hyster Sisters also....that fibroids are cancerous only 1% of the time. So that may be a reason they are not biopsied normally.
