Dr visit

Well, Friends, I did it. I drove myself to the dr yesterday with hubby griping the entire time. He wanted to take me and I wanted to go alone because I am a stubborn hoochie mama. I had not been out of the house since coming home from the hospital. Well, I was walking slow. Had to park on the top level of the parking garage and walk a couple blocks and wearing a Depend....Dang, all I needed was my walker....lol.

I was very emotional when the dr came in. It was the first time I was weepy. I told him I did not think I could take a pelvic exam since I was so sore down there. I told him I thought 2 cats had had a fight on my WhoWho. He said he would be very gentle and he was. It was OK and I did not bleed....WooHoo!!!! He said I was healing well.

I finally got the nerve to ask him what he thought the radiation would do for me. I asked if it was given just to slow it down and try to control it some or what. He looked at me kinda puzzled and said "No, it was given to eradicate it. He said the radiation would continue to shrink the tumor and as it shrinks it will turn to scar tissue. I was stunned.

You guys need to understand that I sat in a drs office and was told point blank that there was nothing that could be done for me and I was going to die. The dr even explained what would happen to my body as I got worse and finally kicked the bucket. It was not a pretty picture. My hubby and kids were there so I know I did not imagine the conversation. Now, I have a dr who thinks he can kick this cancer's butt. I have not fully taken it all in yet.

My case should be a lesson for all....do not believe everything your doctors tell you. Do not accept the doom and gloom dx that some put out there. There are new treatments popping up every single day. I was told by one dr I could not have Brachytherapy because I had already had all the radiation I could take. I was told by another dr that Brachytherapy could not cure me and then told by this dr that he went for a cure. Go figure!!!!! My suggestion to anyone who is told there is no hope just keep going to doctors until you find one who says there is hope.

The good news is that I do not go back for a whole 3 months. When they told me that it was like a deep sigh of relief. Three whole months, the whole summer.

Oh, yes....I also asked the dr if my terrible fatigue was from the radiation and he said no that he thought it was from all the medicine that had been put into my body plus being in the hospital and immobile for 9 days. Hopefully it will get better.

Love to all,
Juanita

GaGa,
I'm so happy that you found a doctor who wants to fight with you. And even better, that he is kind. Best news of all is that you have 3 months to heal and relax before you go back. Congratulations! Now - go enjoy summer.

What awesome news! I'm so glad you found this doctor after all you've been through.

I had the same brachytherapy you did (interstitial, the template was sewed on to my skin, too!) I'm so thankful for the advances in cancer treatment, and the success this highly specialized radiation treatment has had! I'm one year post treatment, and I feel as fit as I ever have! Hopefully you will be there soon!

Enjoy your summer, and I'm praying you heal quickly both emotionally and physically.

Juanita! GOOD FOR YOU!! HOORAHH, YIPPEE, YAHOOO! I'm standing in the middle of my living room jumping up and down for joy for you (my little puppies are looking at me like I lost my mind).

You are so awesome for hanging in there, not giving up and looking for other answers!!

I just know you are on your way to a full recovery and with that super supportive husband of yours you will live on in love.

Thanks for bringing such hope to so many others that are starting down a similar road. It teaches all of us not to give up hope and to be our own strongest advocates to fight the right fight!!

You rest up and heal. With your drive and character you'll be back to your old self in no time!!

Take Care!

Vicky

Juanita,
Thanks for your update. You are proving that it can be so important to stay proactive and search for doctors who will not give up. May that tumor shrink quickly and you regain your energy. You are one very special, determined and brave lady.
