chickening out?

I've been taking pharmaceutical grade multi-vitamin for women and equilibrium essential for the past 2.5 months. I had heavy bleeding for 3 months. In the 3 months I only had 2 - 5 days break each month from bleeding. This caused me to be anemic. Hemoglobin count, 8. My gyn. had me take 975mg iron supplement/day for the past 2.5 weeks. I'm feeling much better and my bleeding has stop for the past 2 weeks. The longest I had been menstrual free. I'm starting to think the vitamin supplements are working and perhaps has reduced size of my fibroid. According to ultra sound done 2 months ago, I have a fibroid the size of a small egg (6+cm). Resulting in elongating my uterus to 10+cm. My hysterectomy is scheduled for 7/22/08. My ovaries will be intact, the uterus including the cervix will be removed. According to a nurse advocate I consulted with said to not go ahead with surgery. My gyn. said to go ahead. I'm torn between two decision. Anyone had anymore input?

Have they tried all the options for you? I had read something about them injecting medication to the fibroid to shrink it or get rid of it.

I spoke with my gyn. re uterine fibroid embolization performed by a radiologist. She simply stated that if any complications should occur resulting from UFE she's not trained to correct any complications outside her expertise. It sounded like it could something more than I bargain for. When I communicated with the radiologist he can't tell me how many UFE he and his colleague performed in a year. He said if he had to guess it would be approx. 100. However, he indicated that other form of embolization is commonly done.

Just curious -- are you taking the women-to-women products? I found out about them after my hyster and have begun taking them to ward off hormone-related symptoms. So far, so good.

chickening out?

My experience with fibroids goes back to when i was 20 and pregnant. Im 37. I had my TAH with uterus, left ovary and tube and cervix removed. I had one egg sized fibroid on the outer wall. Eventually they multiplied into more smaller ones and then they all grew. My uterus had them in and out and it stretched to a 20 week sized pregnancy. I bled all the time and had anemia from it. I also had pain, constipation, low bladder function, leg pain, back pain, etc.....
My advice is to remove it if your not having anymore kids. Most UFEs fail. I researched everything. I never heard of a pill reducing fibroids. I knew i had no way out but removal. I found out i also had endometriosis in my cervix, tube and ovary, and uterus. I never knew it. I had no way of knowing before removal and pathology. I dont regert it at all. Im 7 weeeks post op.

Kaybee2718: To answer you question re what vitamin supplement, you're right, had been taking women-to-women. Have you heard about them?

michellesworld: Thank you for your input and for sharing your experience. You'd have to be in a world of pain prior to op. Glad you're on the road to recovery.

I'll be 45 end of this year. I experience no pain nor pain during intercourse. My endo biopsy, normal. Last night I'd brown stain on my underwear. Maybe I got hopeful too soon, I don't know. Will be seeing my gyn. for pre op on 7/10th.

TAH means they take your cervix and uterus...SAH means uterus only.
