One week post-op with very smelly discharge. Any thoughts?

I have a very light discharge but it is very, very smelly. I go to great length to keep myself clean but can't get past the odor. I had a TVH and a cystocele so don't know whether to call the Urologist or the GYN. Any thoughts??

Hey Jennelee,

I would say call them both and deal with whichever phones back first.

Although I have seen some sisters say odour is normal ... I was hospitalized three times for post op complications and smelly discharge was always due to infection or something going on.

Good plan to be on the safe side love. I'm not a doc but it sounds like maybe a bladder infection ... they are so common with this surgery.

Hugs and keep us posted love!

I'm sorry you're experiencing this.

Personally, I would choose the GYN but I don't think it really matters. The important thing is that you get a medical opinion to make sure everything is as it should be.

Will you let us know what you find out? Take care!

You may want ot call your doctor! I just went for my four week check up and I had a really bad yeast infection.

I would probably call your gyn. If it is vaginal discharge, it may be a yeast infection. Have you been on antibiotics from you surgery?

Here's the update. Went to the Urologist today for my post-op appointment. He says a discharge with odor is normal. As the healing process takes place and the stitches dissolve there will be a discharge, usually lasting up to 6 weeks. It's just going to be one of life's little annoyances.

More than 11 weeks post surgery and still have constant foul discharge. Dr. said as long as there's no fever, to ignore it. It smells awful.
