3 weeks post, complicated abdominal hyst, leg impairment

Hi girls. I am in my 3rd week for total abdominal hyst. I just started to have a belly ache and my incision site has gotten hard underneath. Two days ago I didn't rest much . I did dishes and organized stuff and bent over a bunch, though nothing heavey. I'm afraid I might have over done it. I knew I had to take it easy, but I didn't think I'd have to take it this easy. It's 114 degrees here in lovely AZ. And I'm going a bit coocoo. I also feel lazy...I know i shouldn't but I do. I have also had gas. My bowels were adhered to my uterus and had a lot of work done to them so gas is like a pinball machine in there. I lost 3 liters of blood during surgery and had to have 2 transfusions. My right leg also lost feeling in it post-op. It was determined that the legth of time I spent in the stirrups was the culprit. I went home on a walker and am gradually getting mobility back. Today though is a tough day. I am glad for the hystersister community. Thanks for letting me vent. Love-Mural lady

It sounds like you could use a gentle right about now.

I would take it very easy for the next day or so. Even though you didn't lift, the bending over and stretching and reaching can be awfully hard on the abdominal muscles! If you feel any new pain, or if the pain and hardness underneath the incision doesn't get any better, please give the a call and see if you should have things checked out. Better to call and have it be "nothing to worry about" than to avoid the call and find out later that you should have called.

I hope you are feeling much better soon! You might want to try my own personal favorite "sedentary" hobby -- virtual window-shopping. Go to your favorite high-end Internet shopping sites, start throwing anything and everything you love into the shopping cart.... then empty it out and see how much you would have bought! (Just don't have your credit card handy so you're tempted to actually purchase anything. ) I can also spend hours looking at house plans and recipes online. Now's the time to indulge yourself.

Hello there. I am in the Phoenix area and it is soooo hot here. So sorry you had such a tough surgery.
I had my TAH 1 week before you with no complications. I can attest to the fact that it doesnt take much to wear us out. I had to spend the other day in bed with my legs up resting. I didnt really think I had overdone it that much either - all I did was go around the grocery store and point!
Sorry I cant help with much other than prayers and send happy thoughts your way. But when I read about the gas issues, I wondered if you knew about chewing gum to help it? I read about it here and it worked for me. If you havent tried it (and the GasX) yet it is worth a try.
Get well and take it easy!
