Hair coloring after chemo

It has been 13 weeks since final chemo. Hair is about an inch all over. Lots of gray tho.
I want to put a temp color on it. (Washes out in one week)

Anyone out there with experience with this?
I dont want to hurt my scalp.

I have read 6 months is better, but that is probably perm color.

Thanks!
Chris

Hair coloring after chemo

I waited about five months (20 weeks) and let the hair dresser do it. I know it's difficult waiting, but my stylist said they like to have your scalp really covered with hair and strong so there wouldn't be much breakage. It's been fine ever since.

Hair coloring after chemo

I had mine done about 8 weeks from my last treatment. I had Cisplatin, so my hair thinned alot and stopped growing. But my hairdresser made me wait at least 8 weeks.

Hair coloring after chemo

hi chris...how are you doing? well i guess i'm baaaad, i kept up my hair colouring at the hairdresser every 4 weeks thru chemo treatments. i didn't lose my hair completely, it just thinned. i didn't really care if i lost my hair thru colouring since i had been prepared to lose it prior (couldn't tolerate taxol, the hairloss chemo). if you do decide to colour it soon, maybe you should test it on a small area first to make sure it's okay. good luck. take care.

Hair coloring after chemo

My scalp was so darned sensitive I waited about 2 months post chemo. My sister(who is a stylist) said she couldn't really do much until I had more hair. I too, had Taxol. When I satrted to look like my moms twin(she's completely grey/white), I begged my sister for color!!

BTW, a suggestion is to use Nioxin for chemically treated thinning hair. I started that right after I finished chemo, and my hair is thicker than it ever has been.

I consulted my stylist and at about 4 months she started using a temp color on mine. I did not want to go without my wig/caps until I did. I did not like the way the drab grey really made me look more run down than I was.

Thanks ladies for all your great advice! My head is completely covered now with hair, so I think it will be ok.
I will let you know how it turns out.

It is great to have hair again. Will be nice to not have to wear a wig..
