What questions should I have person with me ask?
My surgery is July 11. My 21yr old daughter is going to be in the waiting room while I'm in surgery. I want the surgeon to tell her how things went. (My husband is disabled and not capable of being there.)
My sugery will be DaVince and is expected to take 4-7hours. I will be put in trendellenburg position the entire time and expected to wake very swollen in the face. The aneshesiologist told me that the breathing tube will be in for a long while after surgery because of the swelling.
If some of my questions are not feasible please tell me too. So far I have these questions:
Questions to be asked of Dr by person with me after surgery:
~~If I have endometriosis, how much and what stage? ~~ Adhesions… ~~ Just wondering the size of the uterus? ~~Can I have an abdominal binder? ~~Any surprises? ~~

What questions should I have person with me ask?
Hmmm, I'm not sure what questions my husband, parents, or inlaws asked when the doctor came out. I know the doctor told them how long surgery lasted, that it went well, that she was confident she'd gotten all of the cancer on the previous day's biopsy, how long I'd been in recovery, and when they might be able to see me. I think that was about it.
I imagine that is all the information that my family really felt mattered at that time.
Please remember that you ought to have a preop appointment with your doctor. That is the perfect time to ask about the binder. Your postop appointment will be a good time to ask about the adhesions and uterus size, etc. That's what I plan to ask when I go for my post op. I also plan to ask where this mosterous bruise came from! It isn't over a laparoscopic "hole" and it isn't where my uterus was.
Anyway, I hope that helps.

the size of your uterus (and probably the condition of your endo) will be determined by pathology, your doc will have that info at your post-op a week or two later ... your doc will tell your daughter when you're stable in recovery, that everything went fine, and that you'll be moved to your room soon ... they don't usually go into anymore detail than that unless something goes really weird (which it rarely does!)
as for the binder, ask at your pre-op ... although you'll probably not need one ... i had mine laparoscopic (though not DV), and doc told me to bring a girdle in my overnight bag ... i didn't have one, so got some super-stretchy panties at wal-mart (2/$6), which i've worn a few times to work under clothes that are still a little tight ... didn't want anything tight around me the first few days, incision/punctures were itchy from the glue ... everyone is so different though, and i found from reading these boards it was wise to be prepared for all sorts of 'what-ifs' ... none of them happened, but i felt very prepared!

My dr came in about 15 - 30 minutes after I got in my room and told me himself how things went and answered all of mine and my mom's questions. I had da Vinci as well and I was plenty enough aware at that point to talk to him and ask what I wanted to know.
My surgery lasted for about 4 hours and I didn't have any swelling in my face. The only swelling I have had at all has been in my belly.
