estradiol pill vs. cream
I am using estradiol (2 mg) and progesterone cream (100 mg). Since I am already using the cream, I think it would be easier to just have the estradiol compounded with it, and owuld then have one less pill to take. My concern is the dosage change from oral to cream. My doc will go along with what I ask for as long as I am informed and know what to ask for. I know he will say there's a dosing difference, but may need info on how much cream to prescribe. Has anyone dealt with this, or have any info on it? Thanks a bunch!

Kelly,
You could check with your pharmacist on the dosing. The doctor is correct in that their probably will be a doseage change. When you use oral estrogen the dose is usually higher because you lose some of the strength thru the digestive system.
I know some women prefer to have their hrt compounded together. For me however, I prefer to keep everything separate. It is much easier to adjust the doseage if you need to. And it is easier to try to determine which hormone needs to be adjusted.

It might be an idea to keep the two seperate to start with until you fiddle with the dosage. Once things seem right then maybe you could have them compounded together. Sometimes there's not a lot of difference but sometimes there's a world of difference depending on your metabolism, liver health etc. I know for me I had a LOT of fiddling when changing from oral to transdermal. I had to be patient:hair: and work my way up because they thought the transdermal would be much stronger........however I seemed to clear it fast and needed to dose twice a day. With oral when I took it it hit me with a blast and I felt great until mid afternoon when I was having deficiency symptoms.
That's just me and everyone is different but starting low and finding your maintainence dose can be very frustrating but saves you a lot of confusion in the long run.
My endocrine specialist said there are 'ball park' figures of what equals what and the sort of blood level it will give you , but.........
as we all know in this jungle - everyone handles these things differently. Your pharmacist is probably more in tune with the 'average' changeover dosage, so I'd ask as Kim said.
Good luck!
