Surgery scheduled for 7/18/08 ~ Getting scared

Getting a bit overwhelmed here. Surgery scheduled for the 18th of July, have a male roommate that will be of no help LOL as he seems to look at me as his mother/maid.

Have no family here and one friend who can help a bit but not much.

Have no car and no money left from my disability check and not a lot of food but enough to get by.

Have a 52 lb 5 month old puppy and a 4 month old kitten who I am worried about while I am in the hospital and when I come home as they both sleep with me.

And more than anything am so scared of the pain I know is to come.

Please pray for me and I am so thankful for this site.

I have called my Dr's office to ask them to see if they can get an approval from my insurance to get a home health care nurse for at least a few weeks.

Sincerely,

taji/Marsha

Prayed and praying. Keep your head up and know that even when we don't see it, God has it in His hands. Jer. 29:11 is a favorite of mine that provides much comfort and peace.

Take good care and Blessings,

The pain on the first day after your surgery is the worse it will be period. Just remember it will only get better from that point. I was saying a Hail Mary when they put me under and the first thing I remember when I woke up was saying a Hail Mary. I had my surgery on Wednesday and came home on Friday. My animals were my greatest comfort. I will keep you in my prayers. It's gonna be fine.

Taji,
Hi, my LAVH surgery is the 18th also. God has really been teaching me to trust him through this surgery. I am having it because of cancer worries. My hemetologist/ oncologist referred me to my gyn doc. I don't like her very much. I am not good at trusting new doctors. But when I told God about it. He clearly let me know that I only have to trust him. God has taught me that I am not alone. He is always here. He is with you too. When I went to my preop appointment the bulletin board in front of me had this poster:

GOD has brought you to this place.
HE will bring you through it.

It helps to listen to Christian music. Know that God wants what is best for you.
I will be praying for you. You can pray for me. If God is for us, who can be against us.

Hi, I had an abdominal hyst. on June 26th, I too prayed going in and kept positive thoughts, it all turns out for the best! Try hard not to work yourself up over it too much - that won't help. Just keep praying and thinking positive.

I had a friend tell me fear and faith cannot exist at the same time inside you - fear is Satan's playground and faith is of God. Remembering that really helped me to remember to turn to God and cast out fear when ever I felt it trying to creep in.

Here are a couple of things that really helped me physically after the surgery:

Remember to drink a lot when you come out of surgery and all the time. It really does help get things moving and helps clear the anesthetics - did for me anyhow.

I also took a laxative called Senokot (I'm in Canada...don't know if this is in the US or not)- recommended by my pre-op nurse and it also really helped...but you need a lot of water with it as well. I took it at night.

My husband bought me a device at a medical store that is like an extended arm. It's a pole with a handle at one end and a grabber at the other end. Sorry I don't know the proper name for it but it's great for picking up something you dropped with out bending over and for getting something down (or putting it away) from above your head. It was about $20 but has been extremely useful.

I have a cat and dog too and it's amazing how perceptive they are, just don't let the puppy jump on you - he still is a puppy

Good luck, I'll be praying for you!

Thank you all for your wonderful thoughts and prayers, I am doing much better and actually looking forward to the surgery and I now have my next door neighbor that will be helping me and checking in on me and such. I have been to my pre-op and everything and everybody was wonderful and I had my fears calmed regarding pain meds, also my puppy and kitten are set up in the living room for when I come home for a bit so I don't have to worry about the puppy jumping up on me.

Your prayers have truly been answered and I am helping others here on hystersisters as much as I can to give them the same sense of knowledge and "let's do it" that I have as much as possible.

You sound so much better. I'm glad your neighbor will be checking in on you. It will help with your recovery. I will be thinking of you on Friday and you will be in my prayers. Keep in touch.
