Hello, and to Hyster Sisters!

I'm glad you found this site so that you can get support from others who can relate to what you're going through now.

At 40 years old you're still not at the age where women typically would be experiencing natural menopause. Women who still have their ovaries have some hormone production even after menopause. Those of us without ovaries are in a much different situation and to me it makes sense that we should at least be able to have an amount of hormones to equate to what we would have if the ovaries had not been removed.

My doctor is very good about prescribing the hormones I need and has told me I can be on them for life if that's my choice. I am careful to keep up on my well woman health care and so far everything checks out perfectly. I was 46 when I had my TAH/BSO and am 52 now. I've been using hormones all this time and have no intention of stopping unless I have some very compelling reason to quit.

You can seek out another doctor for a second opinion about hormone therapy. If you aren't sure how to find a doctor who may be more open minded about prescribing hormones, you may want to try calling a compounding pharmacy to ask which doctors use their services. It's one way women have found a good doctor for this important aspect of their lives. You can check the phone book or try using the free locator feature on this site: www.iacprx.org.

I hope you're able to find a doctor who can help. Please keep us posted, okay? We care about you!

I would find another doctor with an open mind! Quality of life is important! Being miserable doesn't sound good for your daily life at all! I would see another doctor. My OBGYN is a woman and she really understands. She put the patch on me right after my TAH BSO. Without that, I would have constant migraines as well as all of the other problems. Best wishes.

thanks guys ,it easy to feel all alone in this situation due to being so young when it all came out .its sort of a gray area for a lot of drs they just don't know what to do.
its not like i live in some desolate area without drs. i live in Cambridge ma !! dr capitol of the usa .
the problem is that they think they need to save me from the evil hormones .maybe i should eat yams and soybeans .that is the advice i got.
thanks again for the support guys .i'll keep trying to find someone to reason with.

I'm sorry to hear you are miserable. I care and will keep positive thoughts for you that you are able to find a positive solution soon.

I am 43 and had a TAH BSO nine weeks ago. My doctor gave me a book on HRT so that I would be better informed of the advantages and disadvantages of HRT and for me the benefits outweighed the risks for the first 7 to 10 years and then the risks outweigh the benefits. (I have to be extremely careful because my aunt was on HRT due to a hysterectomy and developed breast cancer after 7 years on HRT.) My doctor is also adamant that I discontinue HRT after 10 years. I'm trying not to worry about what I will do 10 years from now and am hoping by the time my 10 years is up that there will be new information out there that will allow me to continue taking HRT.
