31 yr. old with fibroids/severe abdominal pain

I'm a 31 yr. old mother of 2 with a history of fibroid tumors in the uterus. I had a tubal ligation in 2004 after the birth of my 2nd. I had a rollerball ablation done in august of 2006. Everything has been great until about 5 months ago. I'm still bleeding very lightly but I have severe pain in my abdomen. It's always in the same area on the lower right side. It had started a few days before my period and went away, but now it seems to be hanging on longer and longer. I ended up in the ER a couple weeks ago due to the pain and their ultrasounds ruled out any ovarian cysts. The ultra sound did show that I had another fibroid. The ER doc gave me Norco for pain but I can't live like this all drugged up. I have an appt. with my obgyn in a couple weeks to see what's going on. The ER nurse recommended this site for me. I am hoping someone has a similar story to ease my mind. The part that baffles me about my pain is that it's ALWAYS in the same spot, lower right abdomen. Thanks in advance for any advice.

31 yr. old with fibroids/severe abdominal pain

Hi Magoo31,

I too had fibroids. Two large ones. The pain I experienced with mine seemed to generally occur below my belly button line. It was a lower pelvic pressure pain..like someone was squeezing my insides. The pain did seem to get worse right before my periods. I was taking OTC tylenol everyday...like clockwork. For me, the pain seemed to heighten in the middle of the afternoon. I just had no energy and it was hard for me to get my mind off the endless heavy pressure feeling.

So...I am sending out a big cyber

Best wishes with your Dr's appointment~

Mary

We have several Fibroid Resources you can read through for information. You can also do a site search to read the various threads others have posted regarding their fibroids.

Has anyone suggested a hysteroscopy or laparoscopy to see what might be going on inside and outside your uterus? If you know exactly what is going on then you might be in better shape to make the right decision for you.

While waiting for your upcoming appointment, I suggest that you keep a pain/symptom diary noting how you are feeling and what is helping/not helping. ReliefInsite’s online pain diary might be helpful for keeping notes. Then you can share this information with your doctor(s) which can help him/her "see" what is going on for you.

Before scheduling a hysterectomy I would advise that you seek at least a second medical opinion regarding what might be best for you. A hysterectomy is a major, irreversible surgery that is not without risks so you want to be 100% sure it is the right choice for you!

I wish you all the best and hope your appointment goes well! Keep us posted! S

31 yr. old with fibroids/severe abdominal pain

Hello! I'm having the same problems. I have now a constant ache in my lower right side with intermittant sharp pains. I have a fibroid that's about the size of an orange(?) that was found in an ultra-sound. I knew I had fibroids, but they were small, but now this one is growing alot. The pain will radiate around my lower back and down my right leg all the way to my ankle. This is usually during my period and the cramps are sometimes unbearable.

Tomorrow I meet with my dr. to discuss the surgery and what to expect before, during and after. I'm 43 and my kids are 16 and almost 13, and I had my tubes tied 3 yrs. ago.

My dr. said that due to the size, I will have to have an abdominal hysterectomy (an SAH), but they will go thru my existing scar (I had an ovarian cyst and my appendix removed at the same time in 1990). He's leaving my ovaries and cervix.

Your symptoms sound so much like mine!

went back to see the doc a couple days ago and it sounds like a hysterectomy is in my near future. He gave me a depo shot to see if it relieves any pain. I'm supposed to go back and see him in October if this shot works. He said to call back next month if I'm experiencing any pain and he'll get me in sooner. I hope the depo shot works, but I think it's kinda silly to do birth control since I've had a tubal and been ablated. I just want him to take this diseased piece of crap out of me!!!!!
