Question - Had BC now need ovaries removed Had BC now need ovaries removed

I had a partial hysterectomy (uterus) in 2003 for non stop bleeding. We had tried hormones, ablations to no avail. In April at the age of 37 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I had a bilateral mastectomy. I had implants added 7 weeks ago. Now my gyn onc is recommending having both ovaries removed asap. My cancers are highly ER/PR+ and my right ovary is enlarged. I also have a family history of ovarian and breast cancers. They are going to do it through my hysterectomy scar 2nd week of August I think. They will be calling today or tomorrow with the details but I forgot to ask how long is the usual hospital stay? He said I should be up and moving around by day 3 or 4. Does that sound normal? He will not allow me to have any hormones since this is why I am having the surgery to begin with. What can I expect with that and are there other ways to cope with the side effects of surgical menopause?

Had BC now need ovaries removed

Hi Sherry, so sorry to hear about your BC and your need for another surgery. The only advice or info that I can share is that I had a 13 cm cyst & drained and partially removed 7 months after hyster thru the same scar. The pain was WAY less than hyster. The hospital stay was the same length and everything but this one was much easier. You are making a decision based on your family history. Best of luck!

Had BC now need ovaries removed

Hi Sherry, I had a TAH just one month ago I was in the hospital two nights. I left on pain med and walking slowly but was happy to be home and get real sleep. They also went in through an old scar actually he cut it out so to lessen the scar tissue which worked great. I only had one ovary to remove since I once had an ovarian preg, 20yrs ago that had to be removed as an emergency. I can say the side that had the ovary is healing much slower. At 4wks post op I feel pretty good. My question to you is are you keeping the uterus and cervix? Why not eliminate those types of cancers? I had it all removed. When I said I was up walking let me tell you it is a snails pace and full recovery comes very slow.

I recomend visiting a Chiropractor who uses an activator as soon as you can after surgery. This has improved my recovery ten fold. You might think I'm nuts but, I go in for the visit having difficulty walking and bowel problems. She helps me walk tall and I gain strength in digestion.

Take care and God bless you in all your decisions!

Had BC now need ovaries removed

I just had my second ovary removed on Friday, and as with the first a year and a half ago they did it laproscopically and I went home a few hours after waking with no pain medication needed. Maybe you could ask your doctors if doing it this way is an option for you, the recovery is much easier.

Had BC now need ovaries removed

They can't do it laproscopically due to my past surgical history. I had a csection and a partial hysto so they worry with scar tissue.

Thanks everyone!
