Hernia after Hysterectomy?

I will be 4 weeks on Friday recovering from a TAH.

About 2 weeks out, I noticed the left side of my abdomen was more swollen - and way more sore - than my right side. And the left side is where my huge fibroid was and it was always the left side that caused me so much pain.

I went back to my Dr. on Monday and he said it was more swollen on the left side.

He said it could be a hernia and that after my swelling went down more (about 6 weeks) he'll send my for an ultrasound to see if there's a hernia there.

I was so upset, because that requires more surgery

But, it's just speculation and maybe it's not a hernia...Hope so.

Has anyone else experienced a hernia after surgery or know anyone who has?

Any thoughts?

Hernia after Hysterectomy?

I have not experienced one but that is my concern to, I have noticed that my right side, just above my incision, there is a buldge. When I touch it, it is more tender there. I have a check up with the Dr. tomorrow and will ask him about it then. Hopefully both our buldges will reside.

Hernia after Hysterectomy?

i did get an incisional hernia from a previous surgery. i had surgery done in a day stay center and i was home within a few hours. it wasnt bad at all.
with my lsh, i did have an area of swelling that i swore was another hernia...and it wasnt. the dr felt the area and said it was just swollen and not to worry about it. it did go away with no problems. i hope the same for you.

Hernia after Hysterectomy?

Hi there,
I had the same sort of thing and my doctor told me it was from the stitches they put there. They are like rope and they eventually go away on their own in a few months I guess.

Hernia after Hysterectomy?

Hello Princesses,

Yes, I went to my 6week post op with a question about two lumps, one on each side, in my groin.. (along the line that seperates the abdomen from the thigh) and closer to the top, over where the hip joint actually is.

so, I showed my doc, he says looks like a hernia, dang I thought maybe swollen lymph nodes.

Then he touched these lumps and had me cough, then a cough a little harder. He knew what to feel for I guess because I can't tell anything repeating this at home.

Anyway, off to the hernia-repair doc office visit on 7/24..

My gynecologist said it can be taken care of by inserting a little mesh to hold that area closed, of course he is not the surgeon. I see they can do this even laprascopically sometimes.

Keep an eye on that hernia, my doc said. So, I looked up some info. Something that can happen is "strangulation" of the hernia. Then the skin will turn red, swollen, painful. NOw, there's something to be especially watchful of ..OKAY?

This is our summer to get well. CHEeeri-O!! Things should be better soon..
