dry flaky skin after surgery?

Has anyone else experienced dry, flaky skin after surgery? I had a total abdominal hysterectomy on July 8th. They left the ovaries in, and I haven't had any menopausal symptoms. I noticed the flakiness after my first shower on day two post-op, and it's still there. It's all over my whole body. I use a moisturizer on my face, legs, arms and now my belly, but when I dry off from my shower I can see the flakes of skin on my towel.

I was just wondering if this is a side effect of the surgery.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Okay maybe I am just dumb I assumed my new dry flakey skin was because I am not getting my every other week massage. I guess it is really a side effect of surgery.

Hi Ladies

yes, the combination of surgery, anaesthetic, pain-killers and hospital air conditioning dries out both your skin and hair.

Just keep applying the body moisturiser. At four weeks post-op I had a deep cleansing / moisturising facial and felt a million bucks!

I have also noticed dry skin but I am not flaking. My legs after I get out of the shower and dry off, I notice the skin balling up on my legs. And my scalp is so dry, I was actually picking it off. I also had so much dry skin around my nose (I know that was from the oxygen thet had put on me) I was putting lotion on that for a week over and over again before that got better.

Hi, I had dry flaking skin all over my stomach the first couple of weeks after the op.,I put hand cream on it and then it cleared but I still have it around and inside my belly button (vertical cut that extended beyond belly button)and I'm too scared to put anything on it even this far out incase I infect it or something!I wondered if it is because of the stuff they paint on your skin before the op. to make it more sterile??If I can pluck up the courage to try the cream on my belly button and it works,I'll let you know...

Thanks everyone! At least I know I'm not alone, and that it will probably get better with continued moisturizing. Getting a facial sounds wonderful! I think I'll treat myself in a couple of weeks when I'm feeling better.

Hi, you are not alone. I had my H last April and I hate to tell you, but I still have flaky skin. I have it on my stomach, underarms, and inside thighs. It's like having a sunburn...I can actually peel it off. I will be seeing a new doctor in a week and I hope she will have some insight on the subject.
