Hi Kyeema!
I saw your post in the other section.
A bit of background on me- I'm having my TVH/LAVH (they're not sure which yet) on 28th July, this coming Tuesday, the day before you!
I'm in Newcastle, NSW, a 30 year old mum of four kids under ten (yes, my house is always a mess!) and have been having dysfunctional bleeding since my tubes were tied during my c/section two years ago. I average about 15 days on, 5-7 off. It's no way to live.
Plus three years ago my mum had a complete hyst due to having endometrial cancer. Thankfully they got it all and a good dose of radiotherapy has kept it away all this time, but I don't want to go through all that later on. So its safer just to get it taken out than to continually put up with these symptoms, and have my mums situation hanging over my head.
I go in for my pre-op appointment on Monday morning, so I'll let you know what they say
I'm not quite sure what questions I should ask, I might browse the messages here to see if there are any suggestions.
Oh, I should also say that we lived in Melbourne until 1.5 years ago, we were in Hoppers Crossing. My family are there so I lived there throughout my high school time too.
Which hospital are you going to?
Kate

Oh god, you're right! Tuesday is the 29th, I must have had the 28th stuck in my head as the operation day, when actually its the pre-op appointment day!
So yep, three of us on the same day! Ah well, we can all be thinking of each other!
I have a chronic pain condition that affects my right arm and right leg, so my husband is home as carer to me and stay at home dad to the kids, so he already does more at home than I do! So I have no worries there in terms of making sure everything gets done. Although he's no good at doing the laundry, even put ONE SHOE in with clothes once so I'll have to oversee that area lol
We were going to move to Geelong when we lived in Hoppers. We love it there, especially down near Port Arlington, too. My brother and his wife are in Wandirna Heights.
Are you seeing your drs before you go in? I've realised I'm only seeing the anethetist (sp?) so I may not get all my questions answered, but the pain medication is my biggest thing to get sorted, so I need to see him for that.
I only found out my date yesterday so my head has been swimming with things to think about/buy/organise. So sleep wasn't easy last night and I think that it will be like that until Tuesday, then I'll have a new reason to stay awake at night lol
I'm going to do a bowel prep as I already have issues with that area (due to my daily pain meds) and don't want it getting out of control.
Well its 12.30am so I better get off here. Take care
x Kate

We looked at renting in Highton lol
I'm going into <oops! removed for your pre-op security> I'll be in for about 5-7 days as I'll be having a ketamine infusion straight after the operation. This is because I have a chronic pain condition that will flare up with the surgery, so the hope is this infusion will help bring my pain levels down.
I'm allergic to methadone and tramadol, and I chuck after general anesthetic, so my options are low too! But I'm on oxycontin at the moment and can tolerate morphine well, so we'll go down that line I guess. My pain specialist is the director of pain medicine at the hospital, so I know I'm in good hands!

Hi nannatobe,
Truly for many the pain isn't near what we imagine. If you do a search you'll find many others who say the same. Also check out the pre-op forum as you'll find some great info there also. I was off all pain meds at 5 days post op but I do have a high pain tolerance. My pain was at it's worse in recovery.
Take care..........Karen

waiting is te worst bit.
hi,nannatobe, I am now one week post vag hyster,A&P repairs and mesh fixation to hold it all up ,I have to say i was worried sick before the surgery esp the last week nearly drove my family insane. i have multiple allergies to anaesthesia and pain meds.your anaethetist is your best friend make a appointment to see him prior to the surgery if you can its worth it , and will put your mind at rest re.pain etc (as he is in charge of your post op pain control too .) was to have a spinal with some sedation That did not go to plan he promised to do the best he could with the general ( i usually vomit for at least3 days after a general anaethetic and am allergic to the anti nausea drugs) But i woke up feeling pretty good a bit of pain nothing bad not a hint of nausea!!!i had fentanyl in a pca pump i could press when needed i did not need that long .Catheter out peed within 1 hour bowels ok day 2 .Nothing other than panadol needed The repairs are painful if you sit too long otherwise i have been great!!!!difficult to not do too much but if you do you will suffer!!!!!Day 4 i was up got dressed ,all day visitors ,helped make dinner and clear up ,unpacked case put stuff away was feeling good ,forgot to take even a panadol too busy What an idot went to bed at 11.00 and thought my insides were going to burst and heavier bleeding >Lesson learned, took all day sun to recover My surgeon warned me to stay in pjs for at least 10 days otherwise you are tempted to do too much (and your family will let you)i hope this will help you a little but i can not believe how good i feel so far, ps do you know what type of hyster you are having,
