Problems urinating, any help please!
Hi everyone, I had a TAH, BSO and bladder sling done on June 12th and Everything is going well except for my bladder issues. I still can't hold the bathroom well and I also am not emptying completely. My dr wants to see me back in 2 more weeks to check my residual and then start double voiding, any experience or information that anyone could give would be very helpful!
Thanks,
Alicia

Problems urinating, any help please!
Hi Alicia,
I had a LAVH and a bladder sling operation on July 1st. I'm still not perfect but much better than before. I had to keep a catheter for a week after my surgery b/c I couldn't urinate more than a few drops at a time. Sooo painful. Anyway, I was happy to get it removed but still had trouble urinating. It took so much effort (concentration, relaxation, double voiding) that the dr. put me on Flomax for the next week. I ran out and 2 days later same thing. I'm on it for the next month now and it is better. I find that IBprofen helped the internal swelling and might have helped too. My flow is better and I can even pee while squatting which is awesome when you start going places! (TMI) BUT.....I find it difficult tp urinate every so often especially when I've been up doing things and I wake up at least 2x's a night to void. When I do void at night and in the mornings, it is not so easy. I also go more frequently during the day. I think I may post my story also to see if anyone else is experiencing this and that way we'll have 2 threads to get info from. I hope everything gets better for you. I felt very discouraged in the beginning but now I feel some since of hope that things will get closer to "normal."

Thanks so much for your response. I am the same as you, waking up 2x a night to go and I was just wishing by now it would be better. Today I feel like a UTI coming on, so I am really hoping not, I figured by now I would be all better since I am 6 weeks out. UGH!!

Alicia,
Ask your doctor if you can try Urelle, it takes the acidity out of your urine and helps with spasms it helped me a lot post-op after my a & p repair. If not how about AZO it does basically the same thing - I used that on and off for 5 months after my first surgery. Hugs!

Problems urinating, any help please!
I am 1 year post op, TVH and Bladder sling. I truthfully thought I would never be able to pee again. I was sent home with an in-out cath so I could do it myself whenever I felt the need. I carried that thing around with me for months, because I was still retaining urine and not emptying completely. I can say now 1 year post op I am so glad I had it done. I still have to tilt to the left and kike my bottom sometimes to get a good flow, but at least I'm not peeing on myself or feeling like I am going to burst with no relief. If you don't have an in out cath ask your dr for one or go to a medical supply store and ask for one. It save my sanity. Hang in there you will eventually be glad you had it done.

I'm 2 years post-op TAH/BSO plus Bladder sling. I had to re-learn how to pee. I found that I don't have a lot of sensation left down there - so I depend on being able to hear the tinkle into the loo. I also need to double void - and "go" every 3-4 hours regularly. The doctor checked me for residual - and said when I double-void, I do empty completely. The doctor put me on a medication to help reduce bladder spasms - so I can go 4 hours (or more) without having to constantly run to the toilet.
I don't leak when I sneeze, cough or laugh anymore - but I do leak a tiny bit if I don't double void properly. I'm currently going through pelvic floor therapy to strengthen the muscles - and help me "feel" whats going on down there. It seems to be helping (because I leak less).
Be patient with yourself - it takes time to heal. Keep in touch with your doctor and let him/her know how things are going for you.
