Pain With Bowel Movement - 13 days post-op

Hello Princesses,

I am just 13 days post- op and I know that I still have a ways to go, but can someone tell me how long does it take to have a normal BM without discomfort.

Pain With Bowel Movement - 13 days post-op

Hi!

I had the same question a few weeks ago. I'm now in my 5th week out and am starting to feel more comfortable and have less pain during BM. I had a lot of discomfort and pain when things were moving along the path, and that has also eased. Everyone I've spoken to says it does get better.

You might check with your doctor if you are constipated - mine gave me stool softeners. Also, definitely tell your doctor if you have blood in your stool, and if discomfort continues past 6 weeks, I think.

Best of luck!

I'm just about 3 weeks out and find that taking stool softeners helps me. I'm to scared to strain to have to poop. *cringes*

When I still had discomfort after a week I upped the stool softener dose from to the max and it really helped. (Combined with drinking lots of fluids and walking). Good luck.

Mine is just starting to finally work without as much pain. I was beginning to think that it would always be this way.

I'd say, and even for myself I plan, at the six week check up to mention it if it's not completely gone...and tell him about it so he can use this as info to pass on to future patients.

Certainly if it gets worse, after getting better, I'll be calling him before that.

I got information, but I kid you not, it's mostly like standard post op info, and a couple of related tips on one side of one piece of paper. Thank goodness for this site!

Pain With Bowel Movement - 13 days post-op

It's first now that I'm on week 6 that I feel somewhat normal when I have a bowel movement. I'm no longer on stool softeners, my now regular diet includes a ton of fiber, water and I walk a lot. But I do have to go to the bathroom when I have to go to the bathroom...because not doing it immediately still hurts. Which means that I've found out where the bathrooms are in all of the stores I usually go to!

I would say that is where I'm getting to now...from the pain all the time, to the pain when I try to "hold it." I almost had to stop at a store to "shop" on the way home the other night just to utilize the public restroom. Not cool.

I don't have my urge to go back in the bladder just yet. My tummy hurt a little today, and it hadn't occurred to me yet to think "full bladder." Until I bent over to sneeze. Oops.

Anyway, better get doing my kegels, LOL.

I'm so happy to have read about and joined Hystersisters. I thought for a while that something was not right inside. Understand that part of my adominal incision has reopened so, I've become very paranoid. I just want to say a very special thanks to all my sisters for the support.

Sincerely,

Carlie

I had such a painful time the first BM I took after surgery. Ever since I have been scared but each time gets a little better. I keep taking my stool softeners though, still too scared to go through that first and second BM experience. I do however have pain when urinating still, lots of pressure which causes all the pain. I went to Doc and they did a test for infection and it came back clean. Still not sure if it bladder spasms or left over pain from first BM, I just know this pressure pain started after that first BM. Still waiting for it to go away.
