Incision Oozing

HELP! I'm 5 weeks out from surgery. At the 2 week mark, I had infection set in the incision. I was put on antibiotics and 2 days later, the infection pushed thru the incision and poured out onto my bathroom floor. It looked like a scene from a horror movie! I just finished my 2nd round of antibiotics last week and there are 2 places on the incision that will not stop oozing. I was wondering if anybody else has experienced this and any idea when it will stop? I keep gauze sponges on the area to catch the oozing and I feel limited to being able to go anywhere due to this. Thanks in advance for your responses!

Incision Oozing

Hi Pinkrobe,

Yes, I have experienced this. When my staples were removed 7 days post op, I gushed profusely from several different places. It's almost 3 weeks and I am on my 2nd round of antibiotics. I've been to Walgreens 3 times already for first aid supplies (surgery pads, gauze, tape...). The doc and nurses taught a family member how to dress my "wounds". This is done daily and I do feel comfortable going places. While I'm happy that it is healing a little every day, it is disheartning to wake up and see the gauze and pad soaked through. Unfortunately, I am in the same boat as you, and don't know when it will end.

I was told to rub peroxide on the wound to disinfect it. Don't pour it on just rub it like you would if you were washing it. Also, make sure that you use antibacterial soap when bathing and bathe at least 2 times a day. That worked really well for me although I didn't have as bad of an infection as you. Hope this helps!
