Do they really stuff you full of gauze

I am scheduled for surgery on Monday. One of the women from work just told me that when she had her surgery, she awoke from surgery and was stuffed with gauze and it was very painful. Did anyone else have this experience? Is this common?

Hi!

You'll probably hear a lot of stories--some scary, some funny...but it's best to ask your own doctor what will and will not be true for your surgery and recovery. Not all women who have a hysterectomy have to have vaginal packing (gauze) after surgery. Please ask your doctor at a pre-op appointment or call to ask--it's worth it for peace of mind.

You're welcome to join your Sisters on the Pre-Op message board to ask for support and to share support and experiences. You'll want to start a new thread if you have any questions. Many commonly asked questions are answered in the Pre-Op Page which Princess Ruby linked for you. I hope you find that information helpful!

Best wishes for your surgery and recovery!
