Anyone lose red blood count?
I had a TVH and my dr. had me stay 2 nights and each morning the bloodwork showed that I lost a lot of redblood and he mentioned a transfusion. I said no. Of course I would have it he said I needed to. Also had to do a pelvic ultrasound and showed internal bleeding from the abs. I'm suppose to take 2 iron pills and day and get high iron foods. I am tired and he said not to do anything during my recovery. Of course I am nervous and had asked for another blood test but Dr. said it takes time to build up and probably do in a month.
Guess I'm seeing if anyone had the same problems and me and can tell there story. Thanks in advance.

Anyone lose red blood count?
I too have to take large amounts of iron since my surgery. I also had to stay extra days in the hospital due to anemia. I was fine before the surgery. Doc says she does not know why some women react this way, but she says it can take a while for the red blood cell count to return to normal. I also had a lot of trouble with my blood pressure during and for a couple of days after surgery. I was in recovery for almost 4 hours because my BP would not come up above 55/36. I was able to go to my room when it reached 90/50. It was horrible for a couple of days. They made me get up an around quickly becasue if I didn't move around for a while, my BP would start dropping again to below 90. Doc says she's sure the two are connected. BP is now running around normal (for me), but iron count is still low. I'm not sure about the blood loss, but I don't think I had too much internal bleeding after. I have, though, had persistent issues with infection at scar site. I've been on Levaquin for a week now and seen not too much improvement. Not sure what will happen there. Hope things will be all right for you.

Anyone lose red blood count?
I did have a low red blood cell count after surgery; this was because I bled during surgery. When they pulled half my giant uterus through my vagina it tore a bit and bled for a while before they noticed. They opened me up again to make sure there was nothing bleeding from inside and stitched up my vagina.
I was put on iron pills which I hate. Half the reason I had the **** surgery in the first place, and my red blood count rose pretty fast, took a few weeks, it is about normal now. When you are not bleeding it out each month it is easier!

I also had to take 2 iron pills aday after the surgery, but was never on them before. I had a bleeder during my suregery on my bladder. It wasn't punctured but when he got all the extra material off it because of adenomyosis buldged out into my ab. muscles and covered it some it was bleeding when they got it loose. They didn't see it until they were finished closing the cervix cuff. I only took one months worth and the Dr, said I didn't need them anymore. He didn't give me another blood test though, which I thought was very strange. I just might call him tomorrow about that, not that I want to take them again, they are very constipating. But I have noticed that I am very tired now that I am not taking them.

Anyone lose red blood count?
Yep, that's me too !!! Earned another night in the castle and a CT scan because of my declining hemoglobin number.
I've been anemic since at least March but the number kept going down after my surgery (went to a 8.6). The CT showed a little pocket of fluid but nothing to be concerned about.
Went home with a Rx for 325mg iron tablets x2 a day. I have also done very little while recovering - been waited on hand and foot
At my 2 week post op the number was up to 10.6 (!) - still in anemic range but improved.
I have my 6 week post op tomorrow and I am SO hoping it is up to at least 12 by then.

Anyone lose red blood count?
My blood count also went down after surgery almost drove my father who is a neurosurgeon crazy but it turns out I bleed some during surgery and also had my last period a week before the surgery, since my periods were so heavy that contributed to the results. I was pricked every day during my stay at the castle and thank god a couple of days later my blood count stablilized....................no more pads and no more bleeeding for me
Love all

Anyone lose red blood count?
I thought I was the only one going through that. My hemoglobian dropped to 2.1 after surgery. I had to have a transfusion. 3 units to be exact. I stayed in the hospital for 5 days. My blood pressure was really low as well. I stayed in recovery for 7 hours because of the bleeding and the low blood pressure. I have so many holes in my arms its crazy. I actually started getting fustrated that they kept taking my blood to check my level. I mean come on if you pull blood from me every 4 hours like that of course my counts are going to be low....Right? Today is my first day home and i have to take iron 4 times a day for 2 weeks, 3 times a day for the following 2 weeks, 2 times a day for the last 2 weeks. then 1 a day until my 8 weeks.

I also bled a lot during surgery because of a "broad ligament fibroid", which is dangerous to remove. Half way through my surgery I lost my ability to clot also which really had my surgeon worried. Eventually I lost half my blood supply and had to have a transfusion in the OR. I got to spend my first day in ICU, which was an interesting experience, then the next 4 days in my regular room. So, yes, I too was sent home with iron pills: 2 a day for 3 months! When I had my 6 week check up he said my blood supply was still low and it would take a while to build back up.

They also took my blood all the time. It was getting ridiculous. Even the day I went home they came in at 4am and took blood. I thought I was through with that. That is until I went to the doctor for two week check and she took some more! LOL. I guess that will be standard protocol for a while.
