Appendix?

Hi Ladies,
I feel silly asking this question but I have heard a few people say they had their appendix out at the time of thier hyster. Why is this and did you know before you had surgery?
I am having my hyster because the Dr believes I have adeno. Today I was in so much pain I left work early and came home to take pain meds, something I try hard not to do. Within 1 hour I was throwing up and haven't yet stopped. I have never been sick from the pain meds before (vicidin) Everytime I start to feel better it happens again. I can't even keep jello down. I guess I am concerned it is something more then a bug. I remember my mom having appendisitis and she couldn't keep anything down.
I am telling you this has been the worst roller coaster ride ever!! I am so ready for it to be over!! If anyone has any advice I would greatly appriciate it!
Sorry for going on!

Appendix?

Hi Kat-

This is my first time posting so I hope it goes through!!! I've heard of different types of surgeries where the surgeon will go ahead and remove the appendix at the same time. I don't believe it has a purpose. Better to take it out at that time to avoid possible appendicitis in the future. When I had my TAH/BSO the end of June, I had Endo. also on my appendix. My doctor/surgeon said that if I didn't have this surgery scheduled, the appendix would have ruptured within a couple of weeks. It's funny because I was having pain on my right side but normally that pain is from the large cyst I had. So, I didn't know before the surgery that I was also having an appendectomy.

Well, I hope you're feeling better and best wishes with the surgery. This website has a wealth of information!

Appendix?

I requested to have my appendix removed because I have endometriosis, and on my last laps my appendix had endo on it. I also did not want to have it rupture and have surgery again.

Appendix?

They actually ended up taking my appendix out with the first lap I had because dr said it looked like it melted..I ended up with cancer on it..I usually just felt like my stomach was on fire... Good Luck!

Appendix?

Your appendix is considered useless by most surgeons, and it probably is, unless you live in a Third World Country (there are some studies that believe it does help the immune system in areas of poor water/hygiene sources).

My doctor was prepared to remove mine, with my approval, but found that although it was on the right side, it was down underneath the bowel and he didn't want to move a bunch of stuff to get to it and remove it. So I know it is still in there if I have any pains in that area in the future.

I had kinda of mixed emotions about having it removed (if it ain't broke, don't fix it is my motto) but at the same time, if he had found it right there and easy to remove I would have let him do it. I sure hope I don't have any appendix or gall bladder problems in the future. I would hate to have to have another abdominal surgery! This one went so well I don't want to press my luck!

So good luck Kat. Just be sure to ask after your surgery if he did remove it or not.
