3 days post op with questions

Hi,
I had a TVH, BSO with TVT on Tuesday. My surgery was late on Tuesday. I did come home Wednesday around dinner. My questions are ;I feel a lot of pressure when I pee. Not sure if it from the TVH or the bladder repair. Does anyone else have this problem? It also feels like I am really going to go alot and it barely dribbles out.

My second question is that prior to surgery my Dr had mentioned that some ladies are back to work within 2 weeks. I have a stressful job and work 9-10 hour days. I realize it has only been 3 days, but I cannot imagine going back until 6 weeks. Does anyone know the process? They had me schedule a 2 week post op check when I went in for my pre-op. I feel like I cannot rest because I am freaking out the Dr may send me back to soon. My boss doesn't have much compassion for anyone. When I gave her the slip for the leave from the doctor's office, she said"It is customary for them to write 6 weeks" That I would be back before then."
Can anyone tell me what has happened for them? Is it an open discussion between us and the DR?
Thanks

dahlia04--I can only address your first question because I'm taking 6 weeks off of work as this is what was suggested by everything I read and I'm self-employed. As far as your bladder, I was told there could be two things going on. First of all, the possibility of an infection after being catheterized is a good one. I had symptoms similar to what you are describing and ended up on antibiotics for 7 days d/t a UTI. However, I continued to have discomfort and bladder spasms after I finished the antibiotics. I called my doctor and they said that the bladder undergoes a lot of trauma during the surgery and also is settling in to a new position after the uterus is removed, so that all kinds of weird sensations as well as spasms will occur for a while.

The best route is to report your symptoms to your doctor ASAP. UTI's can become serious very quickly and are nothing to mess with. If it's not a UTI, they also may prescribe a medication that helps with bladder spasms. Best wishes and hugs!

Hi,

I had my tvh a week ago. I have the same full feeling in the bladder. If I wait to go it can be almost pain full. So to avoid that I just go to the bathroom a lot.

I dont feel like I have a UTI (not sure what they feel like since I've never had one).

If this continues I plan to discuss with my Dr at my 6 week check.

I also had a TVH, BSO and TVT. My surgery was on the 23rd. (a little over 3 weeks ago) My doctor as standard procedure leaves the catheter in for a week after TVT surgeries. She said that the bladder needs at least that much time to rest to avoid residual. So I am not surprised that you are uncomfortable when you try to go. I would try to drink a lot and go to the bathroom often. Watch carefully for UTI symptoms. I did get an infection about 5 days after the catheter was removed. I just felt like I had to go all of the time, even after I just finished. As for the stream, mine is still very weak and my doctor said that it will likely always be different because the urethra is in a different position now. One more tip, even after you think you are done, sit there a few more seconds, you may be able to go again, it is called double voiding. My doctor did say that would be better in time after the bladder recovers more.

Good Luck, it will get better.

I almost forgot. Pyridium helped a lot in the beginning. It really helps with the discomfort. You could ask your doctor about it.

Your Question about returning to work: I would discuss this with your Dr. and let them know how stressfull your job is. My Dr., when I described my jod to him recommended me to be off for 2 more weeks after my 6 weeks and asked me if that was ok. I agreed because I am still fatigued and sore, and my job is fast paced. Your Dr. should ask you about what type of work you do. If they don't mention it, make sure you bring it up and let them know everything about your job if you still feel you are not ready. If you are not ready let them know that.
