comparing recoveries

I've had three c-sections. Can anyone tell me how the recovery from an abdominal hysterectomy will compare with that of the c-sections?

Hi Diane
I too had c-sections(2). My surgery was 7-30 w/ a TAH/LBO. I would say it goes along the same lines of recovery, of course you don't have a newborn baby to be up w/ half the night! I have only taken Motrin 800, and nothing the past 2 days. I feel pretty good. The 19 staples came out 4 days after surgery. My dr. did nik my bladder( I had heavy adhesions of my uterus onto my bladder) but got the cathader out one week after surgery. It was a pain but now that it's gone I feel pretty normal in that area. My right ovary has kicked in I'm sure because I have been having some pretty intense sexual thoughts and tingles. My husband just has to walk thru the room! ha ha, he is a cutie tho! Sorry so long. The wait was the hardest part. You will do fine! Good Luck, take good care!

Hi Diane,

With all due respect to Patti, she is still very early in her recovery to know how long it will take her to fully recover, and her countless internal stitches have not begun to dissolve yet (that's around 3-5 weeks post-op), which is a whole different phase of recovery.

I've also had both surgeries, and a TAH is a dramatically different surgery than a C-section...similar only in the external incision. It's what's been done on the INSIDE that makes all the difference.

To view a recent thread full of testimonies of sisters who've had both, please click on this:

My very best to you...

Hi Linda
I know I'm very early in my recovery- I was just stating how IIIII
feel and how it compared for me. I'm not being a superwoman by no means. I'm resting alot, drinking the fluids and that's about it. I well understand the long recovery time. I had that w/ c-sections as well. The post was asking how it compared and I though I would give my 2 cents- so sorry I did.

Dear Patti,

Please don't be sorry. I apologize for making you feel badly. I wish I had worded my post differently now. When I saw you use the phrase "along the same lines", I was afraid diane would think it was similar. I'm sure you're taking excellent care of yourself. Please forgive me for making you feel badly.

In the year that I've been here, I've seen countless sisters who've had a TAH been made to feel badly, too. Badly, because they are not recovering as fast as their "C-section" friends, many of whom assume it's basically the same thing. That is why I rush forward to help them understand what a complex surgery a TAH is compared to a C-section. I hope you can understand this, at least a little. Again, please accept my apologies.

My very best to you...

Linda

that's sweet of you!

Thank you Linda for your apology. I did feel a little pounced on. I'm sure there are alot of ladies that do just think it'll be the same as a c-section. But for some I'm also sure it'll be the same. Maybe my c-sections were worse than others, so that is how I'm looking at my TAH. As far as the pains, some are different and some are the same. Of course the gas pains are exactly the same! I am feeling pretty darn good tho. Having a few night sweats and the not being able to do things is driving me crazy already! It'll be a long 6 weeks. But I do know that I will be taking it easy! Just not having to take care of the newborn is a big difference for me. Thank you again for your kind words of thoughtfulness! My best friend is a LINDA. I do love this site, and am planning to send my check, I get my tax rebate next week! Thanks to all who have offered support to all of us ladies. God Bless to all.
