does anyone know how thyroid meds may affect your estrogen? Does it increase your estrogen, or decrease it or does it help the estrogen therapy work better?
Reason why I ask is that I was doing well on estratest and recently started having insomnia. This is number one problem for me when my estrogen is too low. I have also gained 10 pounds. My doctor says that although my thyroid levels are in the normal range, they are in the low normal range and wants to start me with low dose thyroid medicine.
Any experiences or knowledge in this area?
my doc put me on low dosage of thyroid as i was in the low normal range and i believe it has helped my insomnia and energy. as i kinda understand it, the thyroid produces hormones that regulate estrogen production and many other hormones. if your ovaries are gone, then you have to get a balance between the thyroid and exogenous estrogen (estrogen not produced internally).
I take cytomel 5 mcg every day and 2 tablets (10 mcg) every 5th day plus synthroid 75 mcg daily and 1.5 tabs every 5th day. My doc is trying to fine tune the dose. I have to use a calendar to keep my patches and thyroid medication on track!!
Thanks so much for the article. I will look into my thyroid some more. I was also taken off of progesterone by my current doctor. I will ask to be put back on it. It makes me too drowsy even at 100mg so will see if I can get a lower dose by compounding pharmacy.
