Surgery July 23, 2008

Hi everyone, I just want to ask how I should feel, everyone around me says I should call my doctor, but I do not know if I should, I know it says at this time you may feel you are taking one step forward and 2 steps back. I just do not feel right. I woke up all calmy this morning is this due to a hot flash? I am not running a fever. My pain is getting better in some places but seems the same in others. And when I wake up in the morning I feel exhausted. My belly on the left is still swollen and parts of my incision are red still on and off it seems. Am I making a big deal or should I be concerned. I am 49 years old, had everything taken out except my cervix (Only because I had endometiosis wrapped all around everything and when they went to remove my cervix it would of damaged my bladder so they left it in. I am moving around the house only putting dishes away, dusting, lite cooking. I am walking 1/2 mile 3 times a week and the rest just around the house. ( I was walking 3 to 5 miles a day for several years before the surgery). Thanks for your replies, Lori

Should I call the doctor?

Hi Lori,

I dont think it would hurt to call the dr's office and get his opinion.

You could be describing a hot flash but you are still under your dr's care so why not ask.

I think you may be overdoing it with the walking. Have you tried a binder. Takes pressure off your abdomen. Hate to tell ya too but I am sure age does not help. I think it takes longer to heal as you get older. I am 38 and it took me until week 5 to do 1/4 lap on the track and walk across the football field. Take it easy, rest. Your body is talking to you.

Should I call the doctor?

I am 8 weeks out and I am still very fatigued and feel like blah. Is your incision red around it or is it the incision itself. If it is red around it, I would definitely call the Dr. I go back to work on Mon. and I AM DREADING IT because I still feel so fatigued and my belly still swells, it doesn't matter if I do anything or not.

Should I call the doctor?

Lori,

You are still recovering from major surgery, give yourself a break. You are supposed to take it easy! Everyone recovers at a different rate and if you had a lot of endo, your surgery was possible more extensive than some. If it would make you feel better, definitely call your doctor.

Night sweats definitely make you clammy in the morning. Your hot flashes during the day can do the same thing. (I unfortunately know what I am talking about, hate both night sweats and hot flashes).) If you did not have HRT, you will likely be experiencing more menopausal symptoms as your hormone stores get depleted.

Take care of yourself - Joanne
