Which progesterone cream?

Alrighty, ladies

I have just gotten done reading Dr.Lee's book 'What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause' and I want to get started on some progesterone cream. I just had my hysterectomy a couple of days ago and started Vivelle dot .05. I don't have anything for progesterone yet, and would like to find a good cream. I know that this site has one of the creams listed in the book for sale, but I would like to know any experiences with it first. Anybody tried it? Anybody tried any other creams? There's so many different kinds out there and I'm having a hard time discriminating one from the other! I know you don't want it to have parabens or other hormones, but other than that, I just don't know! I'm so confused!!!! HELP!

Love,
Jennifer

Which progesterone cream?

Hi Jennifer!

What does your doctor recommend for you? From your previous posts I'm assuming you've decided that you want to use progesterone along with estrogen because of endometriosis. If you buy an over-the-counter progesterone, you want to be sure that it is natural USP progesterone such as the kind you found in the Hyster Sisters store. If you are careful to buy one from the list of recommended progesterones, you should be okay.

Another option is to ask if your doctor will prescribe compounded progesterone for you. The prescription would need to be filled at a compounding pharmacy. The pharmacist would mix up progesterone in whatever strength and dose your doctor wants you to use. If you have prescription insurance, it's possible that it would cover compounded progesterone whereas it most likely isn't going to cover the over-the-counter kind. You could call your insurance company to ask whether it's covered or not.

Thank you guys sooooo much! I am so in LOVE with this site! I wonder does everyone use compounded, or are there a lot of OTC users, as well? Decisions, decisions!

Which progesterone cream?

Jennifer,
I've used a compounded progesterone cream for over 8 years now. I did use an OTC once when I ran out of my script and was headed out of town for a family emergency. I think the one I bought was progest.

Have you discussed using progesterone with your doctor?

That book says Prog. is good for everything. It is strange, talked about it with my doctor. I wish I hadn't spent the money. I have other books I like much better with better information. Just make sure you don't rely on just that info. There are other books and you can ask your doctor about hormones. They are the people to rely on.
