How much blood did you lose???
So when I was at the dr today I asked for my op report. It was quite fascinating.
I got the answer as to why I still had my cath when I woke up since I was told it would be out. Come to find out my bladder was inflammed so the had to put it back in.
I found out they put me in several different positions.
I found out I had quite a bit of blood, but my total blood loss was only 200 mL (does not sound like a lot to me), but one part of my report stressing that it was more than usual. I guess my pelvic congestion was pretty bad and the veins were not cooperating.
I also found out that she said the normal uterus size is 60 grams and mine was 126 grams and growing and she said it would of continued to grow.
So all in all still got my reassurance that I needed this done.

Doesn't it feel good to know you have reassurance. When I had my 1.5 week postop, my doc told me that my uterus was 243 grams and had adneo. Made me feel good that the US was right on!

I so need that extra reassurance since I am only 32. I don't want to regret my decision in a couple years and I am so far from menopause.
But yes it is so nice to know.
Now one thing I am still unclear on is that when I had my MRI it showed a small spot of adeno. My path report said no significant adeno found, but my op report says adeno.
So according to my dr my dx was adeno, bad case of pelvic congestion.
Wow, you had a huge uterus. What a relief for you to have it gone.

How much blood did you lose???
I think it's tough being young and having to go thru a hysterectomy. You wonder if you've done the right thing or not - even though you know in your heart you did.....but the reassurance helps the mind.
As for the blood loss - I lost about 1L myself and I was pretty wiped out......I was exhausted for quite some time.
So my opinion is don't sweat the blood loss. Eat plenty of iron rich foods and you'll replace that 200ml in no time.
Hang in there!

200 ml is not even a cup, I don't think it is a dangerous amount, a liter is about 4 cups, so you can see the difference.
My catheder was left in for first day and night, it is not that unusual, surgery can freak bladder out, plus its nice to sleep first night and not have to get out of bed( not that I could have, was not allowed up day of surgery at all)
Personally I never ask to see OP reports, I think they can alarm people by sounding worse then they are,, plus a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing..
I do think that when one has a surgery like this they can be filled with doubts, it is major surgery,, and the recovery takes so long( it seems) , but the benefits in the end usaully far outweight the negatives. Thank goodness.

How much blood did you lose???
I lost 200cc's as well, but I haven't had my post-op yet b/c I'm only 1 week out. I agree with lovesparis on this one in that OP reports do freak people out a little bit. I'm in nursing school and can understand most of the jargon and it's still terrifying. I recently requested my last surgery's report and reading it scared to doodoo out of me, so I was all freaked out right before my hyster thinking they'd have to laser away half of my body to get all of the endo that the report mentioned!

How much blood did you lose???
Oh I am not freaked out about it. I find it quite interesting. And personally I don't think 200 mL is a lot of blood, I just find it funny that it said
This was an unusally bloody case depsite the efforts they used.
As for the cath I just questioned cause pre op she reassured me I would not have one when I woke up. I hate them so much. So I was kind of confused and thought maybe she forgot to take it out. But I am glad it was left in cause I could not move out of my bed until the next day. I was so darn dizzy it was not going to happen (I tried but could not make it).
So all in all this post was not caused what I read freaked me out, it all interests me. People think I am crazy, but that is ok.

How much blood did you lose???
I wanted all my reports because like some of the other ladies said, I wanted to be assured that I did the right thing, even though I wanted this done. I found out that I had adenomyosis that didn't show up on my US, I did both abdominal and vaginal and neither one detected the adeno. I also got my surgical report, it helped me understand how much work they did inside with all the sutures they put in. I also asked my Dr. about the sutures, I told me I have HUNDREDS of internal stitches, it helped me reliaze how much I had to slow down in order to heal properly. But yes I can understand how that can freak some people out, But I wanted to know exactly what they did to my body, to better understand the procedure. My blood loss stated 100cc. But before I seen that count my Dr. said I lost alot of blood. I don't know if I lost alot more then that or not whhile they were doing the surgery, because that isn't that much. But I did have a bleeder the whole time they were doing the procedure and didn't notice it until they cleaned me up and got ready to close me. There was a spot on the side of my bladder that was bleeding from when they got my uterus unattached and didn't see it until they were done. They had to use the smallest needle to stitch it closed so they wouldn't puncture it. Hope everyone is recovering well.
