LSH finally scheduled

Hello everyone,
I finally received a call from my doctor's office telling me a date has been scheduled for my surgery.
It is going to be on Sept. 16. I have to be at the hospital at 5:30am and the surgery will be at 7:30am.
My preop visit is scheduled for Sept. 9. I have been writing down questions as I think of them.
The wait to be scheduled seemed like a very long time. Now I'm glad it is finally scheduled. Now I am VERY nervous about it.
I'm wondering how long anyone has waited to travel after having an LSH. Our nephew is getting married on Sept. 27.
We have to travel a couple hours to go to the wedding and would be staying at a hotel for 2 nights. I wouldn't be driving.
I am so glad I found out about Hystersisters. Everyone here is so understanding.

LSH finally scheduled

bkh,

Although I had a TVH, I was pretty wiped out for the first week. Traveling is do-able, but be sure to take care of yourself. Let others do EVERYTHING! No lifting, no driving, no-no-no food prep, let them care for you, and sit, sit, sit (or you can replace that 'sit' with 'rest').

I know that every day I felt twice as good as the day before. At my 1st post-op visit, the DR was surprised that I walked 3/4 of a mile by the end of week one. Just take it slowly, and only do what YOU want to do. At 18 days we took a 700 mile trip (one way). We stopped for a night along the way there, and it really went well, but it was still tiring. I am now 6 weeks and 3 days post-op, and I don't feel like I even had the surgery.

With the exception that I have not had a period (and all the other nasties that accompanied it) since June 22, I could not tell you that anything EVER happened!

My DH asked me the other day if I had any regrets and the only thing I could think of was, "I wish I had done it sooner.

Best wishes,

KD

good luck with your surgery..the lsh is really amazing. i'd wait to see how youre feeling a few days after your surgery..you should be able to tell then if you can travel. i'd say you'd probably have no problem though.

LSH finally scheduled

My doctor said with my LSH scheduled in October that I will only be down for about 5 days and there were no driving, travel, exercise, lifting or other restrictions except nothing in the vagina for a week after. He said I will have surgery on Wed and be back at work on Monday.

Hi Bkh,

I had a LSH and it is still one of the best things I ever did for my long term health. I hope you have similar results.

With the wedding and traveling to it...just wear something very loose and comfortable for the car ride. And pick an outift out for the wedding that is extra comfy. Also, to be on the safe side...just be prepared to sit down as much as you can during the wedding festivities and listen to what your body wants. A LSH is a less invasive hyst and it is still major surgery...so it is okay to take it easy with all post-op activities.

Sending best wishes~

Hi there,

I too had a LSH, and although the only traveling I did in that first month was to and from doc appts, I might suggest that for a lengthier trip you take a lap pillow with you...just in case there is still any mild discomfort, this would really help you from possible aggitation from the seat belt.

I am also very glad that I made this decision, but like many of us, was VERY nervous going into it! Just remember that we will all be here for you if you think of any questions or just need to talk.

I will be thinking of you, and please do keep us posted. I wish you the absolute best for an uneventful surgery and a speedy recovery...and congratulations to your nephew on his upcoming wedding!

Please take care. BIG s

Sincerely, Trish

You will know, that day or the day before, if you will feel up to it.

My guess, if it were me, is yes.

Just take it easy and let others "wait" on you. You will feel so much better, yet you are still healing.

Everybody has given you great advice and I wanted to throw in a few things that have been worked for me. My ab. support binder, bless your heart pillow (has a velcro cover that goes over the lap part of the seatbelt) easy reacher and big girl panties. I had LSH on Tuesday and had to go to the cemetery to make arrangements for my kitty right after my discharge from the hospitol. The hospitol and the cemetary are an hour and a half drive and I did okay. I had a Q pain pump and just put on baggy sweats and did what I needed to do. A wedding seems kind of relaxing and I can't imagine the service being very long and doesn't room service at the hotel sound wonderful. Like everyone said, just pace yourself and take it slow and you willl know when enough is enough. DJ

If your recovery is like mine, you'll be fine. I actually traveled four hours to have my surgery. Surgery was on Friday and we drove back home on Sunday morning. No problems whatsoever. I felt as good as ever. I was out of work the next five days, then went back the following Monday. Best of luck!
