Just diagnosed with cervical cancer expect radical hysterectomy

I was just diagnosed with cervical cancer on Friday, August 29. My ob/gyn took a couple of samples for biopsy and made an appointment with a gyn oncologist for Wednesday. She also told me the most likely course of action will be a radical hysterectomy, though I should be able to keep my ovaries.

On top of all this, our 14 month old puppy suddenly died yesterday. No signs, symptoms, nothing. he was fine and 15 minutes later he was dead. This was hubby's dog, and he has emotionally shut down. I just need someone to talk to.

Okay that is way too much to deal with in such a short period of time. Big hugs...

There are a ton of gals on here that had their hysterectomy's because of cancer, you will find ALOT of support on the cancer front.

I am having my hysterectomy on 8-24, looks like I wont be keeping my ovaries at this point.

Keep your head up, it WILL get better.

Hello. You have a lot to deal with. I'm sorry. So sorry about the loss of your dog. That really hurts. They are our loved ones, like family. And your upcoming surgery, well, I've been there, if you look at my signature lines. Please know you can get through this. Losing one's reproductive system -- well, many of us go through grieving periods. If you are a reader, I wonder if you'd enjoy reading On Grief and Grieving. It helped me find a way to talk about how I was feeling about things. It might also help you talk with your husband about your dog, too. Warm good wishes to you this morning.

I just had to have a TVH on Aug 25 for cervical cancer. It was rough thinking about it but I am so glad I went ahead and did it. I am 6 days post-op now and getting around pretty good. I over did it yesterday and paid for it last night and still paying for it today. But I promise you feel much better afterwards. If you need to talk I am always here

Oh dear, I'm sorry to hear of your bad news. That certainly is a double-whammy to have to deal with. I have 2 dogs, and know how special they are. Right after one of them finished a round of chemo for her canine cancer, I got my cervical cancer dx. I wasn't expecting cancer or hysterectomy either, so I know how shocked you must be. Hopefully you will feel better about everything after you meet with the oncologist. I know it helped me feel a lot better about everything. Use this time to prepare a ton of questions.

Are you going to be able to find out what happened to your puppy? Hang in there!

We buried the puppy, though we are thinking about doing a necropsy. We are going to talk to our vet Tuesday morning to see what she thinks about it. I didn't have time to wrap my head around my cancer dx before we lost this puppy. Hubby was doing great until the puppy died, then he's lost it. Hubby has been talking about chest pains this afternoon. Now all I need is for him to have a heart attack.

((((ImLoyal2u))))

You've had a rough day!

I'm so glad you already have an appointment with an gyn/onc! They are experienced with the cancers and know what to look for and have a variety of ways of care.

Do you know your stage?

I had adenocarcinoma Ia1. I had my total LAVH in June. Since the cancer was at 1mm deep I didn't have to have a radical hyst.

Also, there is a Cancer Concerns board here at HS. You might want to poke your head in there and get some additional support!

I'm sorry you are having to deal with this, but I'm so glad you have found us hwere!

Not yet. When I went to the ob/gyn on Friday to get the news, she did a colposcopy and took 2 or 3 samples for biopsy. The results are supposed to be available for my appointment on Wednesday. My ob/gyn did say that the leasion is so small that you can't see it with the naked eye. She had to use the microscope to see it. Hopefully it has not spread.

I'm thinking of you through all this...

Hopefully DH is just having a panic attack...not that panic attacks are fun, but it's much better than a heart-attack. You guys have a lot to deal with and it must be hard on both of you. Hopefully the cancer hasn't spread and it will be an easy fix for you. And like Peaceful Storm said, the cancer discussions on HS are helpful too.

Sorry you are going through so much!

Hopefully after your biopsy they can tell you a bit more. You maybe fortunate enough to go on and do a LEEP and remove what is there and not have to face a hysterectomy at this stage.

Keep us updated.
