Menopause/Perimenopause??
I just had my fourth ultrasound and was informed that my lining is very thin, my blood work is consistent with menopause. The problem is I am continuing to have a period every few months. I have been experiencing hot flashes for over a year and my menstrual cycle has been inconsistent for over a year.
On this last ultrasound, there was a cyst on my ovary that was not there on July 9th when I had a D&C or in June when I had another ultrasound. A doctor that was filling said that my ovaries are trying to work but my hormones are not working. A laprascopic hysterectomy was suggested following the D&C if the bleeding continued.
I am only 41 and am very confused. I am having my records sent to me so I can review them and possibly get a second opinion. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Menopause/Perimenopause??
I would first get a second opinion.
It isn't abnormal to be in peri/meno symptoms and still bleed monthly even if it is irregular. Some women go through peri for years before they finally reach menopause. If you were meno your ovaries wouldn't be working at all and you wouldn't have a period.
I have been going through peri for a year and a half at the age of 38 now. I was put on birth control pills to make my bleeding a bit more regular and it worked for me. I don't think surgery is the answer to something that happens naturally. You may be able to fix your hotflashes and such with supplements.
Again seek a second opinion from someone with a bit of experience in peri/meno.

Perimenopause
Thank you,
I tried birth control pills for three months and I felt absolutely awful on them. I do not want surgery and will make that an absolute last option. I do not know about trying other hormones they make me nervous. Thanks for your input.

Menopause/Perimenopause??
it sounds like you are in peri menopause. its normal to have irregular periods for quite awhile during that time. i'd suggest you get a second opinion..i'm not sure why your dr would suggest a hysterectomy.

Perimenopause
I requested my records from my GYN. I have had my blood work taken on three occasions.
05/21/08
Estradiol 71pg/mL
FSH 30.9ml/U/mL
LH 20.4ml/U/mL
Progesterone 0.7ng/mL
04/09/2008
Estradiol 47pg/mL
FSH 48.4ml/U/mL
LH 35.3ml/U/mL
12/26/2006
Estradiol 32pg/mL
FSH 61.1ml/U/mL
LH 30.2ml/U/mL
I had a D&C on 7/9/08 and the operative report said a Polypoid-like endometrium with a very small uterus.
Surgical Pathology report:
1. Curettings, Endocervix: Endocervical Glandular Epithelium with Focal Inflammatory/Reactive Epithelial Changes and Acute Inflammation
2. Curettings, Endometrium: Interval Endometrium
I was given Amoxycillin for the inflammation and infection and told I should not be having any more periods. I have gotten my period again and now being told by one doctor that I should have a hysterectomy and a different doctor said to go on the Pill.
What do you think???? I am so confused???

Menopause/Perimenopause??
I think it is time for a another medical opinion. I would suggest looking for a GYN who specializes in treating women with menopause issues.
I would not schedule a surgery that you do not feel is 100% right for you. There could be many other less invasive options for you to try and a hysterectomy is not a cure all for every GYN problem.
If necessary, go back to your family doctor (or find a family/primary care doctor if you don't have one) and go from there!
Sending best wishes your way! S
