Interesting info from Gynae

Hi,

I have just had a follow up appointment with the endo gynae who operated on me last Nov to remove endo and servere adhesions following my TAH/BSO and cyst removal in Feb 2005 (different gynae). I'm still having lower left pain affecting my bowels and bladder although it is nowhere as severe as before he operated. I also still have nausea and retching at times. The histology came back that I also had dense fibrosis and chronic inflammation.

He reckons I could still have chronic inflammation. He has found it in FOUR cases where he has gone back in to look. I have to go on antibiotics for 2 to 3 months and see if it improves.

Has anybody else been told this?

Fibrosis was also found during my laparoscopy early this year but nothing was said about chronic inflammation in the pelvic region. I have heard of chronic inflammation in other areas of the body and have heard of antibiotics being used for the condition. Additionally, I have head of steroids being used from chronic inflammation. I believe it depends on where the inflammation is, the symptoms, and what the physician has seen work in the past.

I wish you well and hope that the course of antibiotics is successful for you! If you have not done so, be sure to ask your doctor about what you should do while taking long term antibiotics such as eating yogurt daily or taking a pro biotic. S

Fibrosis

Hi Weiser:
thank-you for your comments on the fibrosis..still not sure how u can get fibrosis in the pelvic area..and not sure really what it is...I have had adhesions removed..dr. was surprised to see all the inflamation I had...but he never mentioned anything about fibrosis...the report came back inclusive...other than some endo..& inflamation of the adhesions...was taking the antibiotics...they were working...but now has seemed to wear off... so he feels i have nerve damage..the nerve being entrapped in more adhesions..also more endo..god...does that stuff ever go away???So now off to a pain clinic...in Van.bc....I am from B.C..but in the Okanagan Valley we have no pain clinics..so will see what they suggest...am really hoping for a second opinion...
Thanks Again...every little bit counts .....

Interesting info from Gynae

I am sorry that I can't remember the exact explanation I was given by my surgeon and NP but they both felt it was perfectly normal to have found fibrosis in my pelvic region! I was surprised to read it on my pathology report though!

I hope all goes well at the pain clinic!

Sorry it has taken me a while to reply. I have had the occasional quick browse at the forum. I'm not feeling too good and I'm struggling to keep going at work. It is our busiest time of the year.

The antibiotics I'm on are doxycline. They seem to have given me hot sweats at night (and in the day sometimes) and hence very little sleep. I've been off HRT for the past couple of months. I had to have combined estrogen and progesterone since the last surgery but have always struggled to take progesterone both orally and transdermally. My bottom was raw from the patches, so I went off all hormones. Now I'm allowed just estrogen and I'm going to try estring from tomorrow. My GP has insisted in fitting the first one! Hopefully it will help the problems I'm having with my bladder at the moment. The urgency and frequency has become a problem.

I'm also queasy in the day too from the antibiotic and I'm taking probiotic yoghurt, hopefully it may wear off with time.

My endo gynae thinks that my bowel problem is related to diverticular (shown on colonoscopy and barium enema) but GP thinks it is IBS and I'm now seeing an IBS specialist. Treatment so far has not given me any relief.

BTW I came across this definition of fibrosis

Fibrosis
The formation of fibrous, or scar, tissue which may follow inflammation and destruction of normal tissue
