UTI and in extreme pain
I just had my 2 week check up. I have a UTI and have been in Xtreme pain for the past 3 days over the holiday weekend and today he did a internal exam during my check up ...OUCH!!!!my pain meds have been out for several days as he gave me only 30 pills w/instructions to take 1-2 every 4 hours as needed and my surgery was 14 days ago. Is it appropriate to go to my regular familyDR and ask for help????

Did you ask for more pain meds? I wasn't in a lot of pain, but I did run out before I was willing to just take over the counter pain meds. I called and was given a perscription for another 30.

UTI and in extreme pain
Yes...I definitley asked when I was in the office today and crying in pain if I could have something for the pain and he said "What Narcotics NO!" I have a urinary tract infection. I also have a Bladder disease called IC wich has been described to me by my urologist as being similiar to haveing paper cuts in your bladder so you can imagine the pain of an infection in that area coupled with recoverring from the hysterectomy it is excrutiating. My gynecologist/surgeon is a new doctor to me and I have only been seeing him through out this surgery as my previous Gyno moved out of state. He does know my medical history but not me. During my 2 year bi-weekly catheter treatments for my IC w/my previous gyno. He was very surprised that what he considered a month supply of pain meds 30 pills lasted me 6 months as I only took 1/2 a pill twice a week prior to getting cathed even though I had 6 refills available. Soo I am definitley not one to over indulge.

I understand the pain, my dr wouldnt give me anything for the pain of my bladder infection I have now and I called my regular dr and he gave me meds to help with both problems. So I would give your regular dr a call and express your concerns and see if they will help

UTI and in extreme pain
Hi spencer 01!
I am sorry to hear that you are suffering. What I have discovered from my own experience is that when patients are under the care of more than one physician (for example: a urologist, and an OB/GYN, and an internist or family physician, etc.), doctors usually defer to the primary physician for pain management of an ongoing or chronic/recurrent condition, versus a specialist that the patient is seeing temporarily for a specific and serious issue.
So, I guess that if I were in your situation, I would see my family physician.
Many s and Best Wishes,

My ddr also would not fill my prescription for pain meds after two weeks. He said 30 was enough. I have suffered a lot since surgery. I have had 4 UTI's and never had one before this surgery.
If I were you I would call one of your drs that knows you and discuss pain management.
Hope you are feeling better soon.
Sending you BIG HUGS.
