bladder control after TAH

Hi All - I tought I'd start a new thread to see if anyone else is experiencing what I am . I was always a camel before surgery. I could hold my bladder a long time. Even when I drank lots of water I still would go to the bathroom to pee infrequently. Now I find I have to go to the bathroom more often and sometimes I have a little bit of leakage . Is the swelling from my swelly belly putting extra pressure on my bladder and doing this? It is annoying.. .. I never had problems with my bladder before. Just wondering if anyone else has this ????????
Thanks

bladder control after TAH

I am just the opposite! I used to think my bladder was maybe the size of a pea! Now I can hold it.....never had that 'pleasure'! I remind myself to 'go' now. Have you talked to your dr. about your bladder issues? Ask if you can do kegals, if they might help.

bladder control after TAH

I am having the same problem of having to go to the bathroom all the time (TAH Aug. 15th). I am so looking forward to being able to sleep through the night and not have to get up to go pee. I was told by my dr. that there could be several reasons for this. First is all the movement of the bladder during surgery plus having the cath in place. Secondly is the location of the bladder. Prior to surgery the bladder sat in front of the uterus. With the uterus gone, the bladder sometimes will "fall back" into the open space left by the missing uterus. When the bladder tips back like that it often is not able to totally empty. I was told to lean forward a bit when sitting on the toliet in an attempt to totally empty the bladder. Other suggestion was to urinate and then come back in a few minutes and try again making sure to totally empty the bladder. Of course, dr. also said that this should begin to get better with time. If it continues to be a problem then he would evaluate for other issues. Good luck.....

bladder control after TAH

I’m having the same problem but I’ve had a UTI since surgery (I haven’t had one since I was a child). I’m starting my 5th round of antibiotics today (cipro, macrobid, z-pac, septra ds, & back to cipro) Nurse called today and the urine culture came back and they want me to take cipro again. I feel better while on antibiotics but within 24 to 48 after I’m done with them I start having problems again. I have an appointment with a Urologist Monday afternoon and I start back to work Monday morning.
I hope you feel better soon.

bladder control after TAH

Hi my Hyster Sister Friend..............I am soo experiencing the same thing. I could go all day with out having to pee. Now I am constantly in the bathroom and waking up numerous times in the night to pee??? I did have a bladder infection after they removed the cathetor ( after 2nd operation), that has now been treated, but I still have to pee all the time. I am also finding that when I have to go....I HAVE TO GO....there is NO holding it in....it will just start leaking out!! Oh Di......where did our dignity go?? I think mine was left in the operating room!!! I see my doc on the 9th (the Urologist) and my OBGYN on the 10th. I will be sure to ask them about it and let you know what they say!!!

Love, K

HI GALS
Thought I'd update this thread with latest. I had my doc appointment this morn ....I am being sent to urologist now. Sounds like what Tchr said is exactly what my doctor said .
the bladder sometimes will "fall back" into the open space left by the missing uterus...... before it was snuggy and now with the open room to roam ( left by the large uterus and large fibrous) it is no longer held in place. My gyn mentioned perhaps a bladder sling procedure- don't know what all that entails but I am not about to go under the knife again right now- still not feeling good as it is after this surgery which was 10 wks ago.
I have appointment Oct 8th at 3 pm ( a female doc my doc recommended who specializes in women post TAH ) so that should be good. I'll keep you posted
take care of all of you
Di

hi...My issues still have not resolved. Did another urine test this week to rule out UTI. Came back negative. I have an appointment on Oct. 1st with a gyn/urologist that my surgeon recommended. Will keep you posted.

Oh Di....I am sorry to hear that you are still having this problem. A friend of mine had a sling "put in" back in December. I beleive they did hers vaginally and she said that she was awake for the procedure. They needed her awake because they need you to empty your bladder/hold your urine on demand. When do you get to see the Urologist??? How is everything else going???

Hugs

I actually had to have a sling put on my bladder about 3 years before i had my hysterectomy. It was a blessing, while it lasted!!! since having my hysterectomy in 2006, my bladder control is horrible, if i have to go, it is coming out!!! i cannot even hardly hold it in any before i make it to the bathroom. Not sure if sling is broke, or just not working now. I am going to go back and see my gyno who put it in. I am blessed to have a wonderful gyno who is understanding and compassionate. I know he will lead me in the right direction. I understand your frustation though!!!

bladder control after TAH

I have read the messages in this thread. I too have this problem. But I had a large fibroid that sat on my bladder. That was my original complaint. Not being able to hold my bladder all night. When I had my pap the gyn. found the fibroids. My family doctor missed them 2 years in a row. Family doc wanted to give me something for overactive bladder but something told me that was not my problem so decided to go see a "specialist" He felt the fibroids and immediately set me up for a complete hysterectomy. I had it on Sept 9. After surgery I was getting up 5 or 6 times a night to pee. Went back to gyn and found I had a UTI. Been on Bactrim and will finish those tomorrow. Back to Gyn on Tuesday to check and make sure its gone. I am still going to the bathroom 2 to 5 times per night. So will ask the gyn on tuesday what the deal is. I am hoping its something minor cause any kind of procedure will bum me out. This hysterectomy sure has did a number on me. Not sure I will ever feel normal again.
