It never seems to stop!

It seems like every time I feel like I'm finally starting to see the light, something else happens to dim it!

I'm due to finish my cancer rehab next week and it has helped me tremendously. Being able to control my pain is the best gift I ever received! And having the tools to know how to live with this darned colostomy also is a Godsend.

But the past couple of days I have started bleeding again! I mean I was bleeding for the past 2 years! Which is why I finally got a surgeon to operate in February when all the other doctors told me I was inoperable and should just go for palliative care.

Since my surgery in Feb I've been having light brown mucousy discharge (sorry for all the details) which I was told was normal. The past few days I have started getting red blood and a fair amount of it.

I'm not sure why this is happening. I do have an in-dwelling Foley catheter for urination since I haven't been able to pee on my own since the surgery.

I saw a nurse and my oncologist yesterday and they want me to go see my gyno/oncologist to get a 'proper' gyno exam to see why this is happening. And he prescribed a medication (called cyklokapron) to stop the bleeding.

I'm thinking that maybe it's the catheter that's causing the bleeding although I don't have any pain down there. But I'm on a high dose of methadone for pain so maybe that's masking it?

Oncologist thinks that if it was the catheter I'd be 'spotting' not bleeding so badly. I did get an appoitment for Monday to see my gyno but am wondering if anyone knows if it could be due to this catheter.

I'm not taking the meds he prescribed for the bleeding as I did take some last night and they made me vomit and gave me diarhea!

Hopefully this will turn out to be my catheter but I'm REALLY getting fed up of always having to battle something!

It's great to be able to vent here!

It never seems to stop!

(((Maxime)))

I'm so glad that you got an appointment for Monday. I hope your gyne/onc will be able to give you some better answers. I have none.

A respite from all of this would be wonderful, wouldn't it? I hope for a nice long one for all of us.

It never seems to stop!

Dear Friend, I am so sorry you are facing another piece of you know what. I can totally feel your pain in this as I am facing one thing after another also. I wake up every morning with a crying jag...it seems to help me.

I can see you having trouble with a foreign object inside you. One little blood vessle could cause a lot of damage. Being on the pain meds could also mask any pain down there.

BTW I am so glad the meds are working for you.

Please let us know what you find out and in the meantime you will be in our hearts and prayers. Don't give up. It is probably something that can be fixed.

Love ya,
Juanita

Maxime,

Wow you have been through so much and I'm sorry to hear THIS news. I am glad you are able to see the doctor on Monday. My gut feeling is that it's something related to that catheter as you have had some issues with that since you got it.

I hope you can get that issue revolved quickly! Let us know how things go.

Maxime, I'm just adding my prayers to everyone else's. I've had no experience with catheters except immediately after surgery. I'm so glad that you won't have to wait very long to find out something. I hope it is something simple that can be taken care of in the dr's office Monday. Do let us know what you find out. We'll be thinking of you.

Hugs,

I can only repeat what the others have said hon. I have no advice, but am sending prayers your way for a "simple" dx to the bleeding.
