Appetite

Ok, so along with my energy and stamina, my appetite has also run away from home. I just don't get hungry and nothing sounds good.

About to go and make some over medium eggs and maybe mac and cheese.

3wks post op TAH/BSO

Should just go to bed, but need to make myself eat real food.

Maybe I will feel like eating a little ice cream in a while.

Harumph.

My appetite was horrible for a couple of weeks, but is back in full force now....now I am worrying about eating without much exercise! Now that I like food again I can't seem to sleep! It's not much fun, but I keep trying to remember that it will be woth it eventually! Hang in there!

I also had no appetite for a few weeks after surgery. I wish I could say that it's still the case! HA!

I eat all the time and lack of ability to really excercise is making me fat. I think you are lucky, body is just saying you don't need to eat as much right now. Keep hydrated, eat llight but nourishing meals. Drink fruit smoothies.

It's really important for your healthy recovery that you eat nutritious meals. I made a MetRx shake every day in the blender for the first six weeks...it's positively addictive. 33 grams of protein. I made the vanilla flavor, with ice cubes and orange juice.....you can make it as thick or as thin as you want. Delish.

Protein is key to good recovery after trauma. So I also ate a lot of scrambled eggs. Other than that, a lot of dried apricots and the occasional fruit and veggie. I couldn't eat any real meals....they just weren't appetizing. But I was adamant that I have as healthy a recovery as I could possibly have, so I saw anything I put into my mouth as fuel for my body.

Try to see it that way, it worked for me! And it's carried over into my now almost-recovered life...food is fuel.

I lost my appetite too. I did make myself eat so that I could get well. However, I am 9 months post op. I still really don't have an appetite for anything. I just eat because I am hungry. I buy groceries and eventually throw some of them away because its gotten spoiled. When I do eat its not healthy. I am having to force myself to eat more fruits and veggies. And yes I have gained some weight because I have stopped exercising. I am going to start back on Monday. I hope your appetite returns soon.

Thanks for this post, at least I know it isn't just me.

I'm only 5days postop, but I just have no appetite. a couple things "sounded good" but I could only get 1 or 2 bites.

It's like nothing tastes quite right (and I was a finicky eater to begin with). Just the smell of any kind of broth or soup makes me nauseous. Even crackers and toast... they just taste like big balls of dough.

I've been drinking lots of tea, and eating lots of icee pops.

I did have a bagel with cream cheese and ham the other day, but can't stand the thought of one now.

I'm seriously seeing how the weight loss after surgery happens.

It is not uncommon to lose your appetite after surgery, especially female. I'm around 4 months from a TAH, and I too had appetite problems. My appetite is much better now, but still not the same. I still have days when nothing sounds or tastes good......I recommend Ensure. It was pretty easy for me to get down when I just could not think of eating anything. It has vitimins and minerals and also protein. I still have one every morning, because my morning appetitie has not really returned.

Your still early in your recovery. Your appetite will get better with time.

Appetite

I am 10 days out of surgery and my appetite still isn't great .... I am not complaining as I am not using the calories I had been when I was walking and exercising regularly .. plus I could afford to lose about 15 pounds ---

I know the first few days after the anesthesia medications along with the fact I had a tube in my throat nothing tasted good... so I drank ginger ale and frozen fruit slushies... then yesterday I CRAVED junk food... I was able to go get some but they have not tasted good either (YEAH!) ...

I am optimistic that my body will balance itself as it heals....

While my appetite has returned I still don't have a great desire to eat junk food or sweets.....if only this would last!
