Have to go back to work--boo-hoo!
I too have felt great right from the start. I was SO scared I would really hurt afterward but seldom needed anything other than ibuprofen for pain. I did nothing for the first week and a half and have continued to take it easy. I will be two days shy of four weeks post-op when I return to work tomorrow. I have warned my boss that I may feel very tired sometimes and may have to leave work early. I too have had nights of insomnia but ended up sleeping all morning instead. That is one of the advantages of living alone, I could eat and sleep whenever I felt like it. I've put on four pounds even though I've been walking everyday, but my gyn won't let me go back to the gym for another week and no weights for another 3 weeks. But I know I will be more consistent because I won't be hurting anymore. If I had known how good I would feel I would have done this two years ago. Recuperating on the beach has made this feel like the best vacation I have ever had. It's the first time I've taken off from work without doing any projects around the house! Good luck to you all.

Boo Hoo Too!
I'm a member of the feel gooder club also. I needed little pain meds after getting home and only had to deal with the too pooped to pop syndrome for a few weeks. I think I owe this to the excellent advice from this site! Thanks ladies. I have returned to work, first half days and then last week I worked up to an 8 hour day on Friday! Yeah! I finally have that little reserve that lets me go one more hour (but now it's one more half hour) and I find that I miss being at home after thinking I was sick of being here. My list this weekend had REST at the top and NAP in the middle. Hang the floor cleaning and dusting... I'm now into this taking it easy. I also have regained my appetite and am probably putting on the pounds. Still trying to eat right.

Anybody else feeling GREAT?
Add another to the list of "feel gooders".
I'll be 4 weeks post tomorrow. The only pain I really felt, was the bladder healing from my doctor "knicking" it during my hyst. I had terrible adhesions and it was stuck to my cervix.
I came home with an SP tube and a Foley catheter. Those caused me the most pain for about 12 days. But I was still up walking around the block, and doing short trips to stores. I had a couple of dr. appts in there too.
My doctor gave me an estrogen shot in the hospital that lasted 3 weeks....so I had no menopause symptoms, no insomnia, no hotflashes, a little irritable, but that came from being couped up in the house with my 11 and 7 year old sons. It was so hot out, that they spent alot of time inside. My first driving outing was to the pharmacy to get my estrogen patch. My husband offered to pick it up...."No, I need to get out of here!"
Anyway....I only take ibuprofen once in awhile for achiness, I haven't needed a nap in weeks.
I can't wait to start really working out again....I have about 50lbs to lose.
I really didn't expect to feel this good. I'm never this lucky. LOL And yes, I'm taking it easy and not lifting or vaccuming. I guess I can still hit the wall too. But right now....I feel good!
Take care and happy healing everyone!
Eve

Anybody else feeling GREAT?
I am 12 days post OP...and feel great...have from day one.... I was a very lucky one..I came home within two days of surgery and really not had much problems except a bladder infection in which I am using medication to cure right now.
On a postive note..... I quit smoking after 15 years of the dasturdly habit..... and I am feeling really good about it. I've lost 22 lbs too !!! So it's all good *smiles*
I have concerns and big time questions I shoulda asked my Gynie when she took my staples out..... like hmmmm WHEN can I have a bath???????? the Dr at emerg who put me on meds for infection told me I could bath already but my sister told me NO !! he also looked and told me my cervix is still in tact !!
I hope everyone is as suceessful as I am with this !!

Anybody else feeling GREAT?
Hi, Glad to here that others are feeling good to. I have been moving since I had my surgery (TAH/BSO, vertical incision, July 12, 2001). I think that is one reason I healed so well. Doc had me walking the night of my surgery to the bathroom. The next day I was told I needed to be making about 5 laps around the floor. They said that my body need to be moving so that I didn't get a blood clot. Plus it helped to get oxgen enriched blood to my incision. I was sent home on 800mg Motrin. My husband is in Korea, but my son (14yrs old), and Mom have done a lot of the cleaning son 8 (yrs old) helping out also. I was out water my flowers a week and a half after surgery. Empting the dishwasher, and small things like that about 5 days after surgery. I would rest in the recliner a lot also. I have found out that I feel better when I move around.

Anybody else feeling GREAT?
Another feel gooder here.
The end of next week I will be 5 months post-op. Except for the fact that I can see a saggie baggie butt belly, No swelly-belly any more. I don't feel that I have been through major surgery. I feel very well. Also doing any thing and every thing I want to. Sex is better than it had been before surgery, even then it was not all that bad or painful.
My arthritic joints are my worst problems now. But I don't let them stop me either. I love life. Went hiking last week end and had a mid sized black bear cross our path about 30 feet away. How exciting.
I'm not on any HRT, My choice. Only symptoms I have are very mild warm flashes. And still don't have much of an appetite. Can eat only small amounts at a time, several times a day.
I do some stretches and tummy crunches and have added dancing around the house to the OLDIES, for strength and exercise, it is fun.
Hope I can still say I feel this well on my one year anniversary.
Best wishes to all for a speedy healthy recovery.

Anybody else feeling GREAT?
Thanks to all of you for telling your positive experiences. I am scheduled for an abdominal hysterectomy on Aug 27 for large fibroids, heavy bleeding and years of anemia. Since I have never had any pain from the fibroids I sometimes question my decision to have this surgery (but I can not take the hemorraging and GI side effects of constant large doses of iron and lack of energy any longer). This has been going on for 10 years!!
But when I read the post op messages talking about post op pain, numbness, swelling, nausea, vomiting and feeling lousy for months (not to mention the serious complications that some have endured) I get rather worried. I do hope that I am one of the lucky ones. Two women I know who recently had TAH have said that the recovery was long but not as difficult as they had imagined. (So I guess I will torment myself and continue to imagine the worst )
Thanks for sharing. Be well!!!
Tina

Anybody else feeling GREAT?
I think that we needed to hear from all the feel gooders. It gives those that aren't feeling so well something to shoot for. Sometimes we are so caught up in the negetive that we forget to give notice to all the positives in our lives. Each one of us has our own story to tell about our pre and post-op experiences and this has been a blessing to me. It is nice to have so many friends that have been where I've been and understand when you're down and blue and understand when you are feeling great. Keep posting those positive notes because I feel that it helps all of us keep a little hope inside that things are only going to get better.
Remember to listen to your body and take good care of it. It is the only one that God has blessed you with.
Sister Hugs to all of you!
