3wk post op/foul odor

I read in the post op check points that this odor can happen, but how long will this last and/or when should I notify my doctor?

Interesting. I had the same symptom as you but along with it I experienced pain where my uterus had been. Doc told me it was all pretty normal and the pain COULD be caused by the stitches loosening.

He did not give me a clue as to why the odor though. Just said many times it is normal and would go away.

In my case, he did prescribe an antibiotic and some darvocett since the pain was on about a 7-8 on the pain scale and I couldn't walk without the pain. (Got my meds this afternoon.

He didn't see me in the office, but called in this stuff over the phone.

Maybe call your doc to see if this is normal for your type of surgery. Mine was a TAH/BSO which also resulted in an unplanned tummy tuck to repair a botched c-section from 20 years ago.

Please keep us posted. I am very interested in your outcome.

When I went to the doc with odour it was determined I had an infection so you can never be too sure. It would be a good idea if you can manage to get in to see the doc or at the very least give them a call. I ended up having three post op bladder infections and DVT. We are all very different so I hope this is not your case but better to get it checked.

I was also told that the sutures dissolving can produce an odour but not in my case apparently????

Hugs,
Tracy

I dont think a foul odor is normal and would indicate infection. You should not have an odor especially foul after any surgery.

I think you need to call your doctor. A foul odor can be a sign of infection. Better safe then sorry.

I had the same thing. I went to my doctor because it really got to the point where I could smell myself thru my clothes, and that was NOT cool. Soo.. he gave me 2 applicators of Clindesse. Let me tell you what.. it worked!!! You may want to call your doctor and get it checked out. Mine was a little infection (no big deal) doc said it was completely normal.

I am with jeepgrl. I finally said something about a week after I could start smelling myself outside of my clothes. If it is a fishy kind of smell it is probably bacterial vaginosis. I also got 2 applicators of Clindesse to do a week apart and no problems since.
