Is it normal to be petrified?

I'm scheduled for a TAH on Tuesday the 23rd. And I'm just about ready to back out. I've never been this scared in my life! I've never had surgery before, and everything about it....the anesthesia, the recovery, the pain....has me in a blind panic. How do I get over this??

hugs

I was so scared too. I was such a mess and really nothing could calm me down. Just take deep breaths and hugs from whoever you can and just know it really will be ok.
hugs!!!

Is it normal to be petrified?

Your fear is normal. When you get to the hospital, you will probably feel relieved and ready to have the surgery.
My thoughts & prayers are with you. Stay in touch and keep us posted on your progress!

Is it normal to be petrified?

I was so scared and freaked out my Doctor put me on a pill to help me with my nerves. My surgery was on August 13. I was worried about nothing. My surgery didn't go as planned but it was still nothing. I was released 2 weeks early. The doctors have been doing this for years and this is routine for them. Try not to worry it will get you nowhere. Concentrate on getting better and make sure you have alot of things to do to entertain yourself. That was my biggest problem being BORED! I made blankets for my daycare kiddo's for Christmas. Also, once you get to the castle it goes really fast and before you know it your in recovery. My root canal was worse then my hyst. I had a LSH that turned into and abdominal mini c section due to my fibroids were HUGE! Really not a biggie and this was my very first surgery EVER.

Is it normal to be petrified?

I too was worried about going under, complications and recovery. I'm now 4 weeks post-op with a TAH and feel great. I was totally freaking out until I got to the hospital. Don't worry, they will take good care of you!

Is it normal to be petrified?

I'm terrified too, and I've had two surgeries before. First was when I was 12 I had a staph infection in my knee, the other was a year ago. Had a D&C endometrial ablation, and tubal. My hyst falls on the same Monday in October that I had the last one!

It's been a difficult couple weeks and I have four more to go. I don't know what I will do when it gets closer to the time. My doctor prescribed me valium, which will surely help.

Just try to remain calm, take deep breaths, and think of how nice it will be when it's all over. Before you know it, you'll be calming the rest of us saying "it was not as bad as I expected".

Take care!

Is it normal to be petrified?

Mine is the 23rd also and I am scared! Mainly apprehensive I guess cause I don't want people seeing me in all my splendid glory. I have been stress eating all day... I was thinking about writing something funny above my belly button with a marker just to give them a day brightener.. LOL

For me, the pain meds took care of all of my inhibitions.

My Mom was there to help me get out of bed the first time. There was a young male nurse and she was trying to keep me covered with the gown. I finally told her, "Mom, I'm not worried about my gown. He took my catheter out. I think we're pretty good friends now."

The nurses and doctors have seen everything before. It's part of their daily work.

Is it normal to be petrified?

I am only just starting to let it bother me. Of course today I picked up my bowel prep junk, mag citrate, a&d ointment, baby wipes, and then I hit the grocery for broth, jello, gatorades. The house is spotless at the moment and all of the big stuff I wanted to do is done. My pj's are all washed and pressed and my overnight case is packed. Now it all seems real, I'm ready for it, nothing else to keep me busy. So now I guess I start my worry. Best of luck to all of you gals going in this week, see you on the flip side!

Scared, very normal

Hey Girl
You will be fine. It is not cake walk. But busy yourself with extra meals and gathering family or friends to take care of you the first week and drop in the second.

I had a LAVH-BSO, means the everything but my vagina went. I am 41 and did not know about HysterSisters going into it, so I was clueless.

This is something you have to do depending on your situation. I know I couldn't back out (I had cysts on my ovaries and later during the surgur had severe Endrometrios to be removed) so I looked forward to thinking about the positive being done on the other side. You have a sense of pure relief afterwards just need to concentrate on healing post op.

That is what you should focus on and plan to take the pain pills and have some help get to the bathroom etc. You will feel like a truck ran over you but the pain pills really help.

I had mine 7-10-08 and I am now going on my 10 weeks post op. I can now look back and sigh "well I did it".

If your not loosing your ovaries that I think is half the battle. I have to take HRT and that is a challenge adjusting my hormone levels.

I went back to work after 6 weeks a little premature for me in hindsight. Now my issue is fatigue and knowing when I need to relax and rest. I am told it can take months to get back to yourself. Take your doctors advice and walk a lot. It really helped me the most. Took vitamins and protein shakes and ate good stuff.

Take care of yourself and know we are all thinking of you at this time. We all remember the scarey time before the surgury, you are not alone.
