Anyone else dealing with anemia post-op?

My dr told me NOT to take iron ... 12 years ago.... I just dont absorb it. (which is what Plumer Vinson Syndrome is about) So I have been on Iron infusions ever since. I have lab work done every month to check my ferrititn level and if is gets in the 30's or below, I usually go in for an infusion. I go every 2 - 6 months.

Although, after all of these years, I can tell when it gets low. YES< iron can cause upset stomachs. But if you eat something before you take it you should be fine.

Kitty, I do experience all the of symptoms you describe as well as random tingling in different parts of my body and am only mild anaemic - what is going on?

Hi Heather,

I would think even if you are only mildly anemic, you can have all the symptoms you mentioned. To be sure, you should see your dr. and tell her how you're feeling. I had all those symptoms when my hemoglobin was around 8.5 but now my hemoglobin is up and I don't feel the symptoms, only just being tired once in a while.

One more thing you might want to ask your dr. besides checking hemoglobin and ferritin, is to check for B12 deficiency. I think your dr. should order a full blood workup for amenia/fatigue, maybe you can suggest it to her? Good luck and let us know how you're doing!!!
