DaVinci - insurance refuses to cover

What a horror show I am going through with my insurance. Apparently <> through my employer will not pay for my DaVinci hysterectomy! I called and was precerted and the doctors office told me to relax, they would get the necessary approvals from the insurance. Now the insurance is saying they do not cover this procedure and it was my responsiblilty to tell them I was having a DaVinci. Having never had a hysterectomy before, I wouldn't have known the difference, besides I was worrying about cancer at the time, not what type of procedure I was getting. It seems like the doctor's office and the insurance company both dropped the ball on this. I called both to be sure everything was okay and both told me not to worry, they would take care of it.
It seems to me that the doctors office should have sent the information to the insurance company before scheduling it! Or, if it is MY responsibility, the insurance company should have told me which hysterectomys they do and do not cover when I called!

I feel so powerless right now with all this. It won't even count toward my out of pocket expenses!

I really hate the insurance companies right now.

Insurance companies try to get out of anything they can. Stinks! The don't cover embolization or the guided ultrasound for fibroids either. Considered experimental.

DaVinci - insurance refuses to cover

Hi,
I had the same problem, after numerous phone calls to the insurance company and starting the appeal process, they sent me a letter stating that I was covered, when I called to double check they stated it was there mistake and I am covered, you might want to start putting some pressure on them that you are aware of the appeal process and you are not just going to pay! Whatever I said flustered them enough that they actually attempted to pay it twice!! I also have <Oops! Please don't mention insurance company names on the message boards per the site Guidelines.> but out of NY. Good Luck and don't give up!!!

Oh sheesh like you need to have to worry over this. Best of luck and I hope the information given helps you get this resolved. I personally would let the Doctors office hash it out with the insurance company so long as you do what you legally have to do let it be their problem.

Thanks everyone

I am calmer now. I am empowered by knowledge .
Still don't like insurance companies, but I have accepted that this is how our medical system works - for now anyway.
