No bowel prep

O.k., I think I am the only one that is not having to do the bowel prep before surgery. My surgery is Friday Oct. 3. I've asked the nurse and the preop people and they both said, No, your bowels do not have anything to do with your uterus! Well, ok then. BUT what I'm wondering is if I should do little something on my own so that I don't have so much problems afterwards. Anybody have any thoughts?
I do have to see my Dr. on Wednesday for a pelvic exam so will ask her about it then, but just thought I'd ask here.
Also, everyone is talking about how sore your tummy is and that you need a pillow. I'm having a LAVH, so will I still need one?

No bowel prep

Yes you will likely need a pillow, they fill the tummy cavity with air. I had a TVH and even needed a pillow for swelly belly, and still have a horribly large sore tummy four days out.

I hope your Doctor will tell you something you can do to help your bowels for after the surgery. I hated every moment of the bowel prep, but glad I did it because the three days I was unable to move my bowels afterwards were pretty darn bad.

No bowel prep

I had a TAH/BSO and did not need to do a bowel prep either. What I was told was it depended on the doctor and procedure.

I would agree the swelly belly has been the worst but each day it gets better..

No bowel prep

I had a LAVH and did not have a bowel prep. I would definitely suggest you eat light the day before though and drink a LOT of water not only to help keep things moving, but also to keep you hydrated well before surgery the next day when they have to find your veins for the IV. As far as the pillow I would suggest it if for nothing else for you to have if you need it to put between you and the bed tray when you eat so it doesn't rub up against any of your small incisions and for anytime you might ride in the car, especially when you ride home from the castle to put between your belly and the seatbelt. Another thing you might want to consider is if you have a soft square pillow that would fit on the seat of your car nicely that is also nice for the ride home as well for you to sit on to help absorb a few of the bumps that you may not notice as much at other times.

No bowel prep

I am really worried about the bowel thing because I have IBS with constipation, so I drink M.O.M. every other day on a normal basis! I can go 5 days without even noticing it and when I had my gallbladder out I went 12. OUCH!!! I don't wanna do that again.

No bowel prep

I would just make sure your doctor know your daily routine. My doctor had me take M.O.M for a few days after I got home. I ate Prunes and a new juice my DH found at the store Plum Sure or Plum something for healthy digestion. Love it, lower in calories too.

My doctors joke was M.O.M in the PM for a BM in the A.M.

I did not have bowel prep either. I have had some constipation, but that is more likely from my pain meds. I had bowel prep with my D&C and I am much happier this time!! I just ate light, cut the sugar and soda and drank a ton of water.
Feel better soon!!!!

No bowel prep

No bowel prep for me either. I had a TAH on the 12th and my only instructions were no food or water after midnight. My surgery was at 9am.
