High white blood count after surgery

I had my TVH yesterday at 10:00 and everything went perfectly. I came out of recovery feelings the same as I did when I went in with no feeling of even having anything done. My blood work this morning came back with a white blood cell count of 27,000 (compared to 10,000 pre-surgery) and was repeated. The second test came back at 28,000. My doctor says either I a infection is forming, but I have no fever. Or, he said it could just be the stress on my body from the surgery.

Just wondering if anyone experienced something similar??

Hmmm, I had a cyst rupture once and it threw my white blood count through the roof! I even got admitted to the hospital. Hopefully it is just the stress on your body... Either way, take care of yourself and rest.

It is my understanding that WBC fluctuates in response to infection, inflammation, and injury. So in your case, I agree with your doctor, you could either be brewing an infection or it's just your body responding to the 'injury' surgery you've just had. Glad your doc is on top of things and monitoring you.
